Posted - 10/25/2009 : 11:19:37 Hey all, it's Mary, not Ted, I am looking at a S&W 642 Revolver. Something a bit smaller that I can conceal a bit more than my HK USP compact.
Any thoughts on it? Pros? Cons?
Thanks |

Posted - 01/23/2010 : 15:42:14 Pro's: Easy to conceal, Easy to use (just point and pull trigger), Always reliable.
Cons: Personally, I don't think there are any. However, SOME people feel that 5 rounds just isn't enough. So if you feel that 5 rounds isn't enough then it's a con.

Posted - 01/12/2010 : 13:45:01 My favorite J-frame! The only considerations might be a variation of model to provide: CT lasergrips and/or .357 capability, and I see these days they have those basic choices in 1 7/8" or 2 1/2" barrel also. |

Posted - 01/05/2010 : 02:17:41 10 years teaching CCW classes has shown me the 642 is, by far, the most popular concealed carry gun because it is small, light, smooth, simple, and very handy. It's not the most powerful, but it will get er done. |

Posted - 11/05/2009 : 23:14:13 Ted After getting rid of some many snubby 38's to female family and friends, I finally started getting some more. A couple of UL85's and such but I did get a 642 for another BUG. Mary will be well pleased with it. Two shooters are definitely better than one. Most times the thugs are surprised by one shooter but when a lady pulls her piece and starts to add to it, they won't know what hit 'em. |

The S&W 38 spcl J-frame Model 642 is very good choice for concealed carry.
I have three daughters. All are single and live alone in three separate states (MO, MS, and VA). I recnetly bought three S&Ws Model 642-CT, one for each. They have each shot 100s of rounds of ammunition through their own guns and have each become proficient with the guns.
The guns are small and concealable, very accurate at 20 feet and less, and with the Crimson Trace laser grips offer aiming options if unable to raise the guns to a "line of sight aiming" position.
Each daughter has qualified in their home states and each have their CCW permits.
Their mother and I feel better about their safety now that they each have a means of self defense.
You are the man! Good looking out for your family, and lucky you they were all were receptive to getting permits and even more so to learning their firearm. |

Posted - 10/26/2009 : 19:08:03 hi... kinda new here so bear with me... but my wife was carrying a glock 19... and loves it but she said it was too heavy and awkward in her purse... so she took it out... well that wouldn't do so we shopped around and she picked out a 642 airweight and has never left home without it... only downside i see is the 5 round cap. but its better to have 5 in the hand than 15 at home... just our opinion... oh yea she also packs two speed loaders as well so i guess it evens out... |

Posted - 10/26/2009 : 08:26:20 I have to agree with Tina and Jason. My 642 goes into a pocket and I forget its there half the time. |

Posted - 10/25/2009 : 12:49:24 I love mine, Mary. It just disappears when I am trying to conceal to it and it is so lightweight that I sometimes forget I AM concealing. |

Posted - 10/25/2009 : 12:07:38 Should work just fine. Pro's are simplicity and reliability. The only cons I see are limited capacity and the extra time needed to perform a reload on a revolver. |
