when i carry a concealed handgun i dont want anyone to see that im carrying, but if someone should happen to notice its no big deal since its legal for me. there are times such as business meetings however, when i simply cannot afford to be made due to the possible reactions of some very important customers. for times such as these, deep cover is critical.

if you follow any of my gun forums you know that for some time now ive been searching for a deep cover rig that would provide excellent concealment and acceptable access which is much easier said than done. i have several boxes full of different holters, and ive even purchased compact guns specifically for this purpose. despite thousands of dollars in guns and holsters i just never found a setup that i could comfortably carry into gun unfriendly environments. not until i tried the versatile safepacker from wilderness tactical products.

the concept of concealed in plain sight isnt new, but it is suprisingly effective. ive heard internet chatter about the safepacker but just couldnt warm up to the concept of anything resembling a "man purse". running out of options and tired of spending money on wonder holters that i never warmed up to, i figured at $50 it was worth trying out. worn on a belt just like a regular holster, this ever so simple concept and design is more effective for my uses than any other carry method ive found for deep cover. ive worn my colt combat commander 1911 to several business meetings, interactions with other contractors, jobsites, church, shopping, around family and friends, etc. and nobody has ever so much as commented on my safepacker. it fits whatever i wear and blends in to the point of going completely unnoticed by people who would turn pale if they had any idea they were within reach of a handgun.

this holster absolutely masters the concept of concealed in plain sight. the design is truly presentation friendly. should you ever need to draw your weapon in a hurry you release the clip, raise the flap, and reach in. as your hand slides onto your weapon the front velcro simultaneously releases allowing you to draw your weapon straight forward instead of having to lift it first.

although wilderness tactical sells the safepacker direct, when i called they were temporarily out of stock so after a little shopping around i found it at dillon precision for $49. 2 day shipping was only $1 more than regular ground, so i didnt have to wait long.

the quality of the build is first class. it is as rugged as it is attractive. i consider this holster to be a great value, and since it meets my needs so well i plan to purchase a safepacker for my fullsize 1911s, as well as for my glocks. i am a very satisfied customer!

My Safepaker is the one recommended for the XD9c and it is a snug fit. However I do have small hands for a guy so that may be the problem.

Safepacker Draw Question

I also have a Safepacker based on recommendations from the forum for my Springfield XD9 compact. While the Safepacker and I are still getting to know each other, I am very pleased with it and in the Keys heat it is more comfortable than my Smartcarry.

Anyway, here's my long winded question about Safepacker draw style. The manufacturer photos suggest that the velcro closure opens completely once you have a firing grip on your gun. With my hand and my gun, the velcro strip does not open completely at the bottom (muzzle end). To pivot my gun in the holster really does not work for me because of the time (effort) required to rip the remaining velcro open using the muzzle. So with my hand and gun I find pulling the gun straight up and rotating at my rib cage is the fastest way to get the muzzle pointed at the target. From that point I can extend the gun normally. Am I doing something wrong or is that how other users draw from the Safepacker

I got the biggest available Safepacker for carrying my Desert Eagle 50 in remote areas. The fit was quite tight. Due to concern that the main velcro might pop open, I had a couple of reinforcing velcro straps sewn on between the flap and inner side. I am quite confident for carry now. The Safepacker carry strap fits nicely inside a belt loop and even this very heavy handgun doesn't feel too heavy with a good gunbelt.

Mine fits. I bought the "large grip revolver" version and it holds the gun and 1 speedloader, but it's a bit longer than it needs to be.

If you go to the Wilderness site they list most of the firearms that their holsters will fit.

Same here. Sometimes I clip a dead pair of earphones on the carabiner or carry a water bottle in a belt holder to complete the ruse, but really, it's a non-issue. The more I carry it, the more I realize no one gives it a second thought.

I like my Safepacker and since the weather has warmed up here in Colorado, I've been using it more.

But watch out guys... I took mine into a sandwich shop yesterday with my college age daughter. I set it down to draw my soft drink and a minute later sitting at my table I realized the Safepacker with my Glock 26 was still sitting right over there, across the room, next to the lemon slices. I'm pretty sure my face was red.

This is the only problem I have with 'off the body' carry. I'll have to keep the 'Packer in on my wrist on on my belt in the future 'cause I know myself pretty well.

Thanks Nathan, that isn't bad for second day delivery.

Stu, thanks for posting the pics. I don't remember seeing them myself so they are new to me!

Some safepacker pics with Glock 26 for the thread. I posted these on another thread, but here they are anyway. I've been carrying my safepacker more and more lately. Way more comfortable than an IWB holster, and no one gives it any thought. I was in a diner this weekend with three cops on break, and no one seemed to be giving me any extra examination.

dillon is a little cheaper, and second day shipping is only $1 more.
Joshua Posted - 05/01/2010 : 22:15:50
Safepackers are priced $69 at Wilderness and Dillon.

Dillon is $69.95 + $11.99 shipping. ($81.94)
I wish they were still $50

What does Wilderness charge for shipping??

In previous post Dillon was said to have them cheaper than Wilderness.

I also checked into holsters for a Glock 30, I decided to go with the SafePacker, and I am so glad that I did. I really like the holster and you can't even tell that you are carrying.

I wish I had one of these. I would like to wear it around campus to carry my keys, pencils, etc. and see if anyone says anything.
Rocketman Posted - 11/06/2009 : 08:57:12
I have had two - one for a full size 1911/USP/etc. and one for my Para Carry. I generally keep it (the smaller of the two) on the strap of a bag so it sits on my chest which I find very easy to access.

My step mother is a frothing-at-the-mouth anti-gun type and she has never said a thing about either of them. I have worn them on me in front of her - on my gear, in my hand, and sitting right on the table at restaurants and she has never even mentioned it. Bwah, ha ha ha ha!

I bought 2, one government for my 1911, and one "large grip revolver."

Well at first I regretted buying the LGR version, since my 327PD fit just fine in the 1911 safepacker, but today I realized I could put a 10 round mag in my 1911, attach my TLR-1 rail-light, and carry it perfectly in the LGR safepacker.

Its a bit wider, but damn it works nice. I love that light.

I've had one for a few weeks: Put it on first day with un-tucked shirt tail.....5 hrs. later had to finally tell wife I had it on belt. She thought it was my phone. LOVE LOVE LOVE it for the car. I'm a salesman....don't carry into a sales call, and use it while I'm driving as the video shows (seat belt through the loop on back). When I get my cases out of the trunk I can carry it and place it in the trunk without creating a scene. It's nice for in and out of hotels "off body" in my hand to on my seatbelt asap. I've only had one time when a couple of guys at a Fast Food joint seemed to either be "amused" by the "fanny pack" (was on my belt) or one of them knew what it was. I was wearing a suit and left my jacket in care since it was 101 w/humidity.

This is the most versital and most used holster I own. Biggest advantage is 99% have no idea what it is if they even notice it. I'd rather be a dork with a .40 cal and 20 rds. than helpless "non-dork" without it. My IWB is great for me over the weekend, but during the week this is my 2nd ammendments home! Everyone I've showed it to has wanted one. Hope this helps! Just my 2cents!

I was waffeling between getting the Tommy's Gun Pack or the Safepacker. Due in large part to the posts on here I ordered the Safepacker from Dillon Precision. As mentioned it was cheaper than getting it straight from Wilderness and the service was great. I placed the order online and got a call back that the Safepacker was backordered. Their delivery must have come in when they hung up the phone because I got mine via FedEx three days later.
My Glock fits snug with a spare magazine and I am amazed at the ease of the draw from a closed holster. For the times when IWB or OWB won't work, this should be great. Thanks for the info.

I like the concept of this. I have a few friends that are good in leather craft that I may ask to try something similar in leather.
