despite how thick it is i really like my sig 229r, except for one problem: the trigger sucks ass! i sent it off today to sig to have the short trigger installed (enables smaller hands to be able to reach the long trigger better) and i also asked them to install the "short trigger reset" package while they had it. the mods were $200 + the $72 it cost me to ship the gun to them (freakin' ridiculous cost to ship a gun!). i dont understand why a sig can ship it back to me for $30 but it cost me $72 to ship it to them.
...anyway, im really looking forward to getting this one back. they told me to expect 2-4 weeks; i hope to have it back before my trip to NC.
a full review is pending. i never reviewed this pistol because i hate the trigger so badly, but its performance for me has been undeniable so it eventually won me over (the pistol overall, not the trigger). ill review it after i can actually reach the trigger.  |

I understand that Sig is coming out with a new sub compact the p290. Almost as small as the Kel Tec and it's a Sig. Early reviews are extremely favorable. Supposed to be out after the first of the year. |

my apologies for not updating this thread. fact is, the new trigger is exactly what this gun needed. im able to reach the trigger with my finger now, which is good, but the huge difference lies in the "short trigger reset" modification that i had done. with the short trigger reset, the breaking point and the reset point are one in the same (compared to the original trigger where the reset point is way forward of the release point causing a lot of unnecessary trigger travel). shooting the short trigger reset and shooting a standard trigger, the difference really is night and day. im very pleased with my sig now and it has in fact, become my second most often carried handgun. |

Thanks for the explanation and pics, I don't have that problem
with short fingers. My 229 is the best feeling and most accurate gun
I've got, it was one of those reconditioned ones in the red box when
I got it and I didn't know if it may have had a short trigger. The
trigger I really hate is the one on my 1911 mil spec. It's so short it
lands in the first joint on my finger and makes me pull my shots
low and left. I won't one like is on a loaded. |

the trigger itself is $35 but you pay to get it installed as well as shipping. getting the short trigger installed was just something i wanted to do while my 229 was there getting the short trigger reset installed.
btw, my 229 was delivered at home an hour ago. im looking forward to getting my hands on it! details will follow. |

i dont yet have it back, but will certainly post all about it when i do finally get it back. the short trigger is basically a thinner trigger.
here is the standard 229. notice how thick the trigger is.
here is the "short trigger". its just a thinner trigger that makes it easier for shorter fingers to reach.
the short trigger reset is another issue. it has to do with where the trigger resets to prevent all the overtravel. |

how that trigger change worked out. Did you get it back? I was
wandering if short trigger meant positioned closer to the grip?

I know how you feel,
Sigs triggers are the sole reason that I don't own any of their products. With an average price of 750.00 then 272.00 for the trigger upgrade and shipping, I think I would rather get into a good 1911(since I don't own either yet).
Looking foward to your review though, it may change my mind.

is because when i shipped my razorback to springfield for the custom work the ladies at springfield (bless their souls) told me NOT to take it to a storefront shipping place but to actually go to the hub. 'go to the place where the trucks come and go' is actually what they said.
when i went there and told them i was shipping a handgun they let me ship it two day air (which actually got there overnite) from little rock to geneseo, IL for like 23 bucks.
the springfield ladies told me that it was a common misconception amount fedex and ups storefronts that company policy was 'only overnite' on handguns but that in actuality they could be two-day aired for cheaper.
my experience was consistent with that. maybe something to try in the future there in billings i dunno.
i hope they get the trigger hooked up for ya... |
