Is it possible to get a reliable CCW for this price range? If so what would you guys suggest I look at. I have been looking on the forum and most of the guns you talk about and review are priced higher. I know you get what you pay for but I was just asking to see if someone has found one that they would trust in this price range.

Charter Arms Bulldog 44 spcl 5 shot with a 21/2" BBL either in the Black finish or the brushed SS model both of these guns are under the $400.00 price. And they are all American made in the USA & are dependable accurate & easy to carry & conceal. A revolver is a perfect CC SD gun for anyone new entering into CC etc.

Then you have one that you need to either put in the safe, or sell.
I had a Bersa three tiny oh...

Not good for much other than a paperweight....for carry....never again.

NOR do we discuss them here....there is a section for NON CARRY handguns.

I have the base model and carried it as an armed guard and used the same in Action Pistol matches (purely stock too) and won a few trophies. I was able to score about a 95% "Expert" on the Sheriff's Department course qualification with it back in 2000 when I was still with the security outfit. I'm so used to single actions now the double action first shot would be weird but I would carry that if need be again.

Yes, it was a good deal. Maybe a great deal. But my BDM is not perfect....the trigger is a bit touchy. Long pull and a very soft feeling reset. Plus, the 15 round mags are nearly impossible to find and if found go for quite a lot. I have seen them priced at $300. I found one dealer that advertised them for $125 and when I called he said he had sold out.

The good news is the 10 round Browning mags are quite cheap.... I have gotten a few for $15 each.

Large pistol but slim, very egonomic, and a natural to point and fire. A really fun gun to shoot.

I have been thinking of getting a High Power, but I'd also like a Glock 34/35 with that long 5.3" barrel for plinking.

I like and carry a Ruger LC9.

A lot of people don't know that S&W (and others I'm sure) discount guns for first responders.
What's a first responder? Well a police officer of course, but also a fireman, even volunteer firemen qualify. So do EMT's, all military past or present, even commercial pilots! There's a long list of people who qualify, and my brother who has been in the Air Force and Army (weird huh?) for over 20 years didn't know he could buy S&W guns at a discount until I told him.

LE (Law Enforcement) models (this is what first responders qualify for) usually come with an extra magazine, free shipping and sometimes have extra features.

The M&P 9, .357 and .40 full size and compacts are $399 new.
The S&W 642 is $325 new.

I have been going to BudsPoliceSupply lately.

I Just pulled the trigger on a Beretta Nano (9mm) and a Charter Arms Pitbull (40S&W REVOLVER) both at $400 NIB.

Out the door to Keltec PF-9 and Bersa Thunder380 (along with all that .380 Ammo). And NO the .380 has NOT been a concealed carry gun (thanks in part the brainwashing, er education provided by this forum).

An added bonus -- 2 more holsters out of the "junk drawer". The Don Hume IWB (which I love for other arms BTW) was not needed for the Bersa target shooter. The Minitaur M-TAC (which may be fine for distributing the weight of a heavy 1911) was ridiculous for the dimuniutive PF-9 -- why double the size & weight of the overall package! Besides, the PF-9 found a home, albeit briefly in the front pocket. I'm hoping the Nano feels as nice, I trust the Beretta won't be so finicky regarding what I feed it. Proof will be in the pudding, however.

Man, I really have wanted to be a S&W customer! The M&P9sc lost out to Beretta's PX4sc (no regrets). I've had an effection for their lady smith .357 with walnut boot grip and external hammer, but the concept of a .40S&W without moons clips was just too cool in my mind (not to mention great track record with Charter Arms Pink Bitch in .38spl). Then the S&W shield comes out! Eh, manual safety ewe. With my track record with Beretta, it wasn't a difficult choice!

Check out the smith and Wesson SD40. I got one out of curiosity and it has been a great fun. Comes with night sights too for about 400.

You may consider a new Steyr M9A1, in a 9mm caliber. Robertson Trading Post (http://www.robertsontradingpost.com/steyr.htm) has them for $419 plus $10 shipping to your FFL. I just picked one up from them and really like it a lot! I'm a Glock Fanboi, own a G19 and G26 with a G30 or G36 in the near future. The Steyr has a fantastic trigger, much smoother than the great Glock triggers. It is a full size handgun, but with the longer sight radius, it is a very, very accurate pistol. I find I am much more accurate with the Steyr than I am with my G19. The extremely low bore axis minimizes muzzle flip, I am able to keep my eyes on the front sight with the M9A1 better than I can with any other handgun. This gun in a Tommy Theis IWB holster, you can carry it all day long and not even know it's there!

I think Steyr is one of the best kept secrets out there today. By the way, this handgun was designed by the same person that designed the Glock! Very comfortable, ergonomically pleasing gun with a set of interesting sights mounted from the factory.

I'll vouch for the Bersa BP9CC. This pistol will be by my side throughout the warmer months. $350 new OTD.

The only catch is that every month you dont pick it up you just have to pay 3% of the remaining balance so for a 300 dollar remaining balance just pay the $9 and let it sit there until you can afford it. Good Decision (although I don't own the M&P9c). I know I've said good things about the PF-9, but I'm now sour on it; I could have been killed!

First, when brand new, it had trouble swallowing 147gr Rem UMC (sort of flat tip FMJ) likely, the worst-case round for reliable cycling. I like WIN Ranger T 147gr, so I figured if I could get it run the UMC, likely no problems with the Ranger T. I did a partial fluff n buff as recommended in the forums and indeed believed that I had all of the bugs worked out -- what a difference :) No problems with a couple of boxes of UMC AND a box of Rangers!

I did NOT remove the firing pin, nor did I remove the Frankenstein Extractor (maybe I shoulda).

After riding often in the pocket, but not fired for 3 or so months, I figured that I better fire off my 2 mags worth of Rangers and some more FMJs during a backyard practice session. To my horror, almost every other round jammed! Noticing stark differences in expelled brass (some dinged, some not, etc.). I believe that the problem is with the extractor allen head bolt loosening up, not reliably extracting and jamming the next round feed. I say this, because I can rotate the extracter back and forth with my finger! If this is the problem, yeah likely a simple fix -- fluff n buff it and LOC TITE it down! Is it true that the factory doesn't Loc-tite these bolts!??

IDK, maybe I'll get to the repair this weekend and let you know how it goes. I never had to do ANY of this kind of to get ANY of my firearms to work reliably before (and stay working even when not in use; storage in the pocket, etc.). I guess that I believe a firearm that is specifically marketed for CC should not behave so finiky. What next? Maybe I should proactively disassemble the firing pin or replace what seems to be a good hammer or trigger or...

. . . maybe replace the whole damned thing!

I agree with Stobie: I had a budget in mind, not just for the gun, but for holster, extra mags, etc. A friend told me to take my time, look and shoot more, and put my accessory money toward the gun.

The extra time and money paid off, as I waited and was able to get my first choice, although I originally thought it was outside my budget.

I second Nathan's suggestion re the Sigma. I have the 9VE with over 4000 rounds through it. Was my main carry gun for a while, but instead of sometimes, it is now almost all the time with my 642, with 158 gr BBore 158 LSWCHPs in a Galco pocket holster.

Picked up a used Walther PPS for $450 last Wednesday. I liked the feel of the gun in my hand, the trigger and trigger pull was kind of like my Glock, and the thickness of the gun itself, were the features that sold me. That and the fact that he knocked $75.00 off his original asking price. The only downside is the x-tra magazines cost $40-$60.

I agree with Tigershack..check local pawn shops. I picked up a Glock 30 for 325.00. It was priced at 495.00. I asked to see it, field stripped it and said hmmm..there is some wear and tear in here...it's gonna take at least 150.00 bucks to make this thing reliable..(I was telling a lie) The sales person asked what would I give him, I said ohhh 325.00. Done. It shoots like a new gun. Shop around.

If my guns magazines were only $30 new i would be happy, all of mine are $35-$50 each.....

The Kahr CW9 is in your price range. Mine was flawless and easier to shoot than the Keltec PF9 I used to have.
