Well, not really.
One of my neighbors that I've been friends with for 15 years (knows I'm an enthusiast) came to me for a favor. He, his wife, and some of his wife's lady friends all want to get licensed and wanted to find out what the process is. Once I discovered that all of them are complete newbs, I was a little leery, but we set a date and I went over to meet with all of them tonight- him and 6 ladies. I took a bag of (empty) guns, some (empty) mags, and some different types of ammo (loose in my pocket).
It went pretty well. I explained the licensing process, class, costs, etc. I went over lethal force and results/responsibilities of using non-lethal force as well as lethal force (castle doctrine, SYG, "fear for your life", "no options", preponderance, AOJP, etc.). I broke out some iron, and we went over the 4 basic rules and talked/demonstrated how people who accidentally get shot usually violated at least two of those rules. I showed them wheelies as well as semi's and everyone got to handle them and see how they work, benefits, finger off the trigger, muzzle direction, clearing, etc. It's been so long since I've done guns around complete novices, I forgot the "aha" moments of seeing people handle a pistol for the first time, learn how to drop a mag, rack a slide, or open the cylinder. We even got into a little "proper grip", etc. as well as mousegun doctrine. The funnest thing was talking conceal, and asking them if they thought I had a gun on. I showed them three (G23 3pm IWB, pocket SP101, 442 ankle). Pure gun-nut stuff, but eye-opening after talking with them an hour.
It was nice to have a positive influence on so many ladies (and gent) interested in getting their cards. They're all signed up for the CWP class in a couple of weeks. I left it at that. If they all follow through then maybe range invitations will be in order. Seven newbs already have a firearm wish list. They're all afraid zer0 will be re-elected....HAHAHAHA!!! |

That's such a great story. It's so nice to have people out there at the range and such who are willing to take the time to help me out. With my most recent gun purchase, I have had several failures to extract. One of the range employees, who is also an instructor for their in house CPL class, took time to help me figure out the problems.
Another wonderful experience I had was after my CPL class when everybody who brought their own handguns allowed everyone else in the class to put a few rounds through their guns. I had the opportunity to try so many new guns. Quite the learning experience. |

outstanding. You've just helped make your neighborhood a safer place.
I've helped quit a few co-workers get their Florida license, and have even completed the application for those folks that are "paperwork challenged". Have give non-professional advice on handgun selection and even took several to a near by gun range for their first time firing any gun. Very satisfying and would do more if my schedule permitted.
My next challenge is my next door neighbor that is retired from Pennsylvania and desparately wants to go shooting and to get his license, but his wife FORBIDS it. He wants me to talk to her to see if she will listen to me. Ah, marital bliss. I miss it so much  |
