Hi all. This is a very informative forum. I've been lurking around for some time. I'm seriously considering the above two pistols. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. I believe both are very good weapons are would serve the purpose. I'd just like to know what you have to say about them.
Thanks,
Keep Safe!

Welcome aboard! Please stop by the New Members thread and introduce yourself to the membership!

As for your question, I am not a 1911 expert at all, but I can tell you that I work for a very large So. Cal. LE agency. Our SWAT Team recently tested various 1911 platforms and decided on the S&W 1911. From all reports I have heard, they are very pleased with them.

I really like my S&W1911PD. It has been completely reliable and, of course, is many ounces lighter than its steel counterparts (I also have a Les Baer and Springfield). I don't carry it anymore as I now use an M&P .45 but still love shooting it.

same can be said of any manufacturer, including S&W.

You know tht they are made in Brazil - right? thus no better really than a Tauraus.
that is absolutely false. being made in brazil is the only thing springfield has in common with taurus. brazilian steel is some of the finest available today. the QC process at springfield is in no way comparable to the QC at taurus. you arent really trying to put springfield on the same shelf as taurus, are you? surely im missing sarcasm somewhere. with the vast knowledge you have demonstrated in the past, we both know your comment is absolutely false.

both are quality pistols and either will serve you very well. that said, you are comparing two weapons that arent truly comparable (a $500 pistol to an $800 pistol). a more accurate comparison would be the springfield loaded with the S&W pd. given the choice between the two, ill take the springfield. the S&W is a 1911 style pistol that utilizes an external extractor that JMB rejected over 100 years ago, the springfield is a 1911.

Either is great. One of my 1911's are (newest one actually) is a Smith & Wesson Compact ES. It is an Officer frame with a Commander length (4.25") slide. Love it. Love it. Love it. Perfect CCW size. Here's a link: http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&productId=86955&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15709&isFirearm=Y

I don't think you can go wrong with either one of your choices.

Emrah

P.S. I also have the Taurus 1911 and it is NOWHERE NEAR the equivalent of a Springfield; regardless of where they are made.
