i just bought one a couple of months ago. it is in the springfield shop right now due to a double feed issue. as i understand it, this is a very very rare problem with any springfield. customer support was great, should have it back soon. the gun is very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. i am very happy with mine even with the problem and i am sure that sa will take care of whatever it is.

i don't have any info on the .22 conversion. i will only shoot a .45 with .45 rounds. it is important to me to practice with the gun in the same way i would use it in an emergency. maybe someone else can answer that question.

i will post some pics up in a few days.

nathan, i tried to get the gun shop(owned by my sister-in-laws family) that i buy most of my guns from to order me one but they called all there suppliers and they could not get one. i told the guy that i found one for $545 bucks and i had him check what they would sell one for and he said it would be about the same and he said that i should buy it because they must be very had to find. so i took his advise and went and talked to the guy at the other gunshop about a hour from my house that i found one at and i was doing my paper work on it and the guy seen my name and asked me where i was from that he had heard my name before. i told him where i was from then he asked were i worked and i told him the sheriffs office in the next county over and then he said that i should have told him that i worked for the sheriffs office. then he said i could have it for $500 + tax

i would loved to have found one in stainless!!!!!

I had two Champions. One was the WW2GI version. Plane jane, no frills parkerized with those horrible sights. I modified it to be a carry weapon and carried it for over a year. It was very accurate and never had a manfunction in over 3000 rounds. The other was an older, pre-loaded stainless model. It had a barrel bushing like the 5" 1911 and was a hoot to shoot. I then bought the Wilson Compact version, the Professional. Mine is stainless and has all the bells & whistles I need. It is my daily primary carry weapon. After buying the Wilson I sold the other two to buddies that have been bugging me to buy them. They are carried daily as well by those buddies.
Here is the GIWW2 Champion I had:

This is my Wilson Combat Professional....a champion of sorts

I just turned my 1911 Champion in for Cearcoating on Friday. Can't wait to get it back and see how it handles with the new coating. I've owned it for two months now. Had to have one as I carried one on active duty.

I picked up a slightly used SA Loaded Champion 45 in stainless---neat pistol---it is my only 1911 type pistol---love shooting it---still, when I want to carry a smaller 45, I choose my HK 45C...
