My wife needs a kinder, gentler gun to practice with since too much shooting with her M&P 9 hurts her shoulder

She, of course is left-handed and has trouble with some RH guns.

An ACORN is a really bad nut.

I've notiiced my Walther P22 doesn't kick the brass straight back, which would hit her in the forhead, but I'm not sure that would be exactly what she needs. Your best be would be to try a couple. I'd try to stick w/ a 22 pistol that mimicks her gun as close as possible. A browning buckmark, while a great pistol, wouldn't mimic a carry pistol that much.

One thing you might also consider is light loads for the MP9. If you load your own ammo, you could try a few lighter loads progressivly and use the lightest one that still operates the slide correctly.

I'm not sure if anyone makes a 22 conversion kit for the MP pistols, but someone else may know for sure.

I'd suggest the Ruger MKIII

How different is that from the older Ruger Standard. I have that one. I shot it today, in fact. I love it, but she hates it. She can't operate the slide.

I love shooting my P22 but as Ted meantioned, brass ejection could present a problem. Actually mine is very unpredictable for direction of ejection. I put one down my wifes t-shirt last summer while she was behind me and to my right - landed right between her boobs. A couple of weeks later I had one land between my eyes on the bridge of my glasses. They both left burnt skin.

Sadly, the P22 may be out of the picture. If one went down her shirt, she would never shoot it again.

I'll have to visit the local gun store today or tomorrow and look at their selection.

Everyone needs a Ruger 22. A Mk III or used Mk II would fit the bill, with the caveat being the safety is on the right side... But it's not the end of the world.

They're very easy to use, and you don't need much strength to operate the bolt. The one drawback is the magazines are a PITA to load. I HATE loading the darn thing by hand. Enter the ultimate clip loader: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65jHazxWXCA

I have a Ruger MK 1 I bought 30 years ago or so. I like it, she doesn't. Can't rack the slide. Although, the MK III that I looked at yesterday was much easier to rack, so it might be an option.

That speedloader looks like something I would get, though.

My fav. 22 is the Ruger but I believe the Browning Buckmark is more "lefty" friendly. The design of the slide is 100% ambidexterous

Sigh. Safety glasses, and t-shirts that aren't low cut on the range. As a female with the appropriate equipment that has hot brass go where it shouldn't, tell her to wear a tshirt and jeans instead whatever cute little thing she has on. The range isnt for being cute, it is for being precise. She can be cute later. If it helps, though, tight tshirts are better...less gap.
However, NO tank tops. Voice of experience

I looked for .22 DA revolvers at one place Monday. They didn't have any. They did have a single action Ruger. The store had loads of guns, just no DA .22s. I will be looking for some this week at other places.

I was going to visit a gun store near work yesterday, but it was snowing pretty heavy and I didn't want to walk 1/2 mile each way in that weather.

I have to agree with pinkhamr....She will probably be better off with a revolver. If she can't rack the slide, an auto is worthless for her as a weapon.

Fast is fine...Accuracy is final
