I'm not sure. We're still friends, so I'd probably have her stay where she is (most likely that's in her room, which has no windows, her bathroom however, has a rather large window (for a bathroom)) and call 911. Let the dispatcher know that I'm coming over (often times, all a perp needs is to know that he's being watched, and he'll skedaddle), what kind of car I'm in, and that I'm wearing (insert whatever I happen to be wearing here). I'll keep my safe distance first, use my camera to try to locate the SOB and any friends he might have helping. Take pictures. And only move in if they actually break in. Chances are though, given her home's close proximity to the station, and her two dobermans, they'll turn tail and run. But I'll have some good pictures to share when Johnny Law gets there.

I'm starting to have serious doubts about this idea. Anyone have other ideas to consider? Her house is in a suburban area, with her row of houses at a much higher elevation than the road. Makes for very steep driveways and no way to see any part of the backyard from the street.

She has a doberman that barks a lot, but if you keep walking towards him, he'll just lick you.

Her whole back of the house is mostly glass too, not to mention the dog door.

I'm sure it's just my old mind working slowly, but I feel like I'm missing the beginning of the story.

Here's the beginning of the story: http://concealedcarryforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21780

I figured it better to start this discussion as a new topic, rather than putting it on the end of the other one.

Thank you for the background threads. So let me try this again. If your now ex-girlfriend called and said someone was was trying to break into her apartment, you would tell her to call 911 and then head over there with a camera.....

Well, my short answer would be that's not the best plan, IMHO.

First, she should be calling 911 first instead of you.

Second, unless you are in the apartment with her, you do not want to be wandering around her apartment grounds (with a camera no less) when the responding LEO's arrive.

If she is concerned about the physical security of her place, then there are professional firms that can help.

If she wants a weapon(s) to protect herself in her apartment based on local law, then point her toward some good gun shops.

Personally, I would have the Doberman sleep in the house with her.

It's nice you are still friends, but you are not her appointed guardian angel, no matter how much you would like to be.

I get what you're saying, and I agree, to an extent. Let me elaborate: absolutely should be calling 911 first, I would remain in my car with my camera's telephoto lens, the doberman is inside/outside through a dog-door, and will rush out barking if he hears the slightest of noises, the bedroom she's in is on the back side of her parents' house (not an apartment, her parents are often out of town and need someone to watch the dogs), and the house sits about 30 feet back and 20 feet higher than the road. The dogs are restricted, via invisible fence, from leaving the back yard and down the driveway. With that extreme elevation change, there's no way to see into the backyard from the street.

As I type this, I'm realing just how silly this sounds. So let me pose the question a different way: say you have a grown daughter who lives with a room mate, but the room mate is at work, in a house across town. The house has no weapons (for whatever reason, let's run with it though). You get a call that someone's trying to break in, and she already has 911 on the other line, they're getting the cops out there, but they're 10 minutes away. You happen to be in the Winn-Dixie that's a block away, and as a valid CHP-holder, you are armed and just 2 minutes away. What would you do?

you have alot of "what-ifs" and I dont know wtf a camera has to do with anything, you going to take pictures of a license plate while she is being raped or take pics of her being killed? your confusing me as well as the rest of the crew.

If you care about her at all get her protected, if not then dont! about the nicest way to put it without beating the subject to death, leave your camera and telephoto lens out of a gun fight..................

Sorry, but I can't relate. My daughter has her own KelTec P11 and is competent in its use. The terrier mix is a sweetheart, but very territorial and aggressive. She'll dial 911 and leave the line open. If she runs out of ammo, she's got her knife and sword collection. Someone trying to break in is in serious trouble since her sense of humor is somewhat lacking.

Kitop, no camera and call 911. Keep her on the line as you drive over there. Let her know this is the last time you will come as to the reasons listed. She can't have it both ways, if she doesn't want a BF with a gun then she needs to do like the rest of the sheeple and call 911 and hope they get there in time.

There wasn't any call about burglars, a scared woman called 911 saying she saw her ex-boyfriend sneaking around her house and she said he always has a gun, now
