Here is what I prefer.
There are many options out there, from a smart carry holster to a safepacker, but this one stays nice and tight on your body, and if you wear a camel back then it doesn't look so odd.

Is this for a bicycle or motorcycle? I forgot to ask.

when I have to carry my bike I usually throw it on my right shoulder
(SOB holster). It just depends on which side my holster is lined up for, I have both left and right for SOB.

Many sports stores offer a velcro "pack" that is attaches to frame just under the seat on the horizontal tube and seat post tube. This works well on most hard-tail bikes an may work on some dual suspension models as well. The pack is large enough for most compact pistols and even a couple spare mags and accessories It can even be rigged for use while riding the bike.

Take a look at Pistol Wear holsters (pistolwear.com). I posted a review of mine recently.

This is where a typical fanny pack would work without gathering attension. $10-15 bucks and you're good to go.

Some good ideas here. I definitely like the idea of having the weapon on your body rather than attached to the bike. If you are in trouble and have to ditch, then the gun comes with you so much more easily and quickly.

And if you run into a store for a quick shopping trip or bathroom break, are you gonna haul your gun out of its hidden spot and tuck it into your spandex?

I do A LOT of road biking and always carry my .357 snubbie in a 5.11 tactical undershirt. I highly recommend it.

One item for two uses -- the camelbak goblin. Carries h2o, looks nothing like a holster, and also works as a ccw fanny pack.

"Tommy's Gun Pack". They are a high quality item and the draw is very fast. My favorite thing is I'm able to have it ready to pull in a split second and could fire thru it if necessary. They are pricey but get on his mail list and he has sales alway going on. The "original" is the least expensive and works great. I've had one about two years and use it frequently, still like new. They have a video on their web site.

I'm just getting back into bicycling after 10+ years off. My experience so far:
Pocket carry of "J-frame" revolver (actually the wife's Charter Arms Pink Bitch) -- seems like the handle likes to work itself to peek-a-boo status.

Normal IWB (Hume) strong side PX4SC -- feels right. Overshirt has not yet rode up over the piece.

I'll qualify that I'm not dirt-tracking it, doing pop-a-wheelies, etc. but am riding on mix of pavement and dirt/rock roads with an "enduro" equivalent of a pedal bike. Also, this is so new (biking and carrying) that I admit I should have more stick time before opening up my mouth -- oops too late!

I second the Pistol Wear holster. I have the PT-2 for my M&P9c and I love it. It is EXTREMELY comfortable and absolutely disappears when wearing dark colored athletic shorts. I don't have enough room to carry a spare mag, which is a bummer, but the M&P9c would swim in the PT-1....

I am working on this exact thing, except I am a roadie and a bike racer, so spandex and jerseys are a must. When you bike 50-100 miles, sprint at high speeds, and burn 2000-4000 calories riding, a fanny pack or other holster with a normal carry weapon is out. The jersey has pockets in the back, but they will print like mad. I am working on a small .380 (I know, I know...not liked here) since they are fairly thin and small. Once I pick out the gun, I will be working on a custom holster, like a pocket holster that will keep the gun from printing while in my jersey pocket. I am looking at the Taurus TCP or the S&W Bodyguard since they are stainless and I will be sweating on it like crazy. Once I get off of the bike, the .380 might end up as a BUG while I pack my G19.

You don't need Nathan. I spent the day today in a high density tourist area walking around in shorts and t-shirt with my Glock 23 in the Safepacker at 2 o'clock. Never noticed any unusual stares or attention to my fag bag. Took it off and hand carried when we went to eat with the holster on the table with my phone and keys. With gun and a spare 15 round mag, I can't think of a more versatile case/holster. The more I use it, the more I love it, the more I realize how covert it is. Plus, I can draw way faster than your typical fanny-pack. I'm not pushing the product, I'm just telling you how well it works for me. I did remove the label with a X-blade. Sorry Safepacker, you don't pay me enough to publicly endorse.

Sincerely,
