I have owned a S&W .357 service revolver for 35 years. Until recently it was my night stand gun. Anyway, it had beautiful wood checkered grips. The beauty faded somewhat after 50 - 100 rounds when my palm looked like freshly ground hamburger. I replaced the wood grips for some ugly rubber grips. The ugliness fades after 50 - 100 rounds and they turn into a thing of beauty.
