Another hit piece on the right to carry into establishments that serve by the drink:

It apparently is too much to ask that the media present this in a fair and balanced manner. The editor just can't help ramming his anti-gun agenda down his readers' throats.
Notice that the poll question makes NO MENTION of the fact that the law expressly forbids drinking while carrying:

ABOUT THE POLL
Pollsters surveyed 625 registered and likely voters across Tennessee by telephone July 19-21. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
WooHoo, I bet I could find 625 registered voters to poll that would give the answers that I was looking for too! Why not try to poll every voter in the state and see where it leads. |

Michigan just passed a smoking ban in bars, restaurants... I'm not a smoker, and I appreciate others not smoking around me, BUT I disagree with the state criminalizing smoking.
I view this (proposed) law somewhat the same way. I think you are asking for trouble if you hang out in bars with a bunch of drunks. Firearms and alcohol don't mix, BUT I don't like the state criminalizing carrying. |

PA has a similar no-smoking in bars and restaurants law. The only way you can smoke in a bar is if the bar makes a certain percentage (I want to say 90%) of its income from the sale of alcohol (as opposed to food). So if you go to a bar that has really good food chances are you can't smoke there. Which sucks, because sometimes I'd like to have a cigar or a pipe with my beer.
In this situation I feel that the government should not be regulating private business. It should be the owner's call whether or not to permit smoking. If a bar allows smoking and you don't like smoking, then don't drink there and don't work there. If the bar doesn't allow smoking, then the owner is attracting the non-smoking crowd. It's all about catering to the market demand, in order to maximize profits.
Maybe the government should ban glass bottles in bars too, since you could hit someone over the head with one. (Cool Mythbusters episode about this last night) |

The law expressly FORBIDS drinking even one drop of alcohol if you are carrying a firearm. I don't see the problem. Besides, there have been no reported instances in other states having the same or similar law where someone with a permit got drunk and started shooting people. |

Exactly, where are the statistics on guns and restaurants? |

Notice I said hanging out with a bunch of drunks. I never said anything about getting drunk while armed. You can't control other peoples' actions, and neither can they when they're drunk.
If you buy into this forum's "Rules to Live By" (http://concealedcarryforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4121), hanging out in bars with drunks makes it pretty difficult to follow #5 Secure your perimeter, and #6 Avoid crowds.
I choose to not carry in bars (I don't frequent bars anymore), and I would encourage others to not carry in go to bars as well. If you do, that's a risk you take. I also believe the state has NO right to make that choice for you.
Its just like the smoking analogy: thanks for not smoking around my meal, but I think it should be the restaraunt's or individual's choice.
Afterthought edit: I can see reasons I would stop by a bar (to pick up a friend?), but would still not want the state to tell me to disarm. Avoiding bars is MY choice. It doesn't have to be yours. LIBERTY |

| I was recently invited to go to a after meeting late diner with a few politicians, which included a state Representative. i was glad to go, till i found out that they were going to long horn steakhouse and saloon. i had to decline, when asked why i told them because my state legislator, did not trust their citizens (suzzana hupp line) to go into a place that sold and consumed alcohol, even if it is a restaurant and even though i don't drink. just try to think of a good sit down restaurant that doesn't serve alcoholic beverages |
