A guy I work with is getting divorced and is selling off some of his stuff. He has this Kimber .45 that he said he would take "$700-$800" for. Ive shot the gun and besides being beautiful it shoots awesome too. I looked it up and its just shy of $1200 brand new. I need some of your thoughts on Kimbers and this model in particular. I know they are pricey but are they worth it? Is $700 a good buy on this gun? Thanks guys.

My local GS sells that model for over $1200 NIB. I would say you should jump on it (if you like Kimbers) before he changes his mind.
Since I've never owned a Kimber, I am basing this only on price. I'm more partial to Springfield Armory 1911's. I would get some other input from those that have owned or own a Raptor.

Nathan will probably have something to say here since he has owned several Kimbers....I think he had a Raptor somewhere along the road.

MY KIMBER RAPTOR PRO. $1400 POS. loved the way it felt, hated the way it failed to perform.

...that said, for $700 you should jump all over it. throw wilson another $100 to make it run and youll have a gun that feels good and works good.

Man, you got me wondering now. I was somewhat anxious about it but "fail to perform" has me worried. Can u be more specific? I've shot this gun one time and grouped it better than i did my own pistols i took to the range that day. I left impressed. I dont want it if it cant be relied on in self defense, you know. Btw, who/what is Wilson?

Wilson Combat, they make some of the best 1911 magazines in the market. I have used them in my STI Spartan and never had an issue with them.

Sorry Nate, I didnt see the link to your previous thread about the Kimber you bought. After reading your experience and some of the other posts it really seems like a gamble. Thanks for the input.

The price your friend quoted makes this seem like a no brainer to me.

And you sure don't want to carry this thing for SD until you have put a pile of rounds through it.

If it shakes out well, then you can consider it for EDC, and you got it at a great price. If it has issues, esp with the wilson mags, then you can always sell it.....and maybe even make a bit of money on it. There are a lot of people out there who still love Kimber.

i wouldnt say Kimber's Customer Service is bad at all. I was having issues with my Ultra Carry and Kimber handled it. I was impressed with them really. And I havent had any issues since getting it back. I would buy that gun if I were you

My major concern is that Kimber only has a one year warranty from date of purchase. Although barely used its a few years old. I would be the one breaking it in and if it has problems, well, I guess I would be paying for repairs.I just bought that Shield less than a month ago and it's going back to S&W for the repairs discussed in another thread. I think I will pass on this Kimber. I've been eyeballing Springfields 1911s so may just save my money and get a range officer or something. Something with a lifetime warranty! I've got a lot to learn and you guys are very helpfull. Thanks again!

for that price i would buy it. shoot a few hundred rounds out of it and if it is not up to snuff sell it, probably for a profit. Or you could send it in to wilson to for their reliability package (about $200) and have a heck of a nice 1911 for under a grand

You pay your money and take your chances. I got lucky with my Kimber Ultra Carry II. I shot 500 rounds through it before I decided to carry it and I don't think one should have to do that but I do like it now that it's broken in. I've carries it for quite a few years now. Some Kimbers are great some need some work. For $700 it's worth it.

I agree with Ron. My experience with Kimber has been positive. I have a Custom TLE II that I bought new on sale and has been absolutely flawless. At that price, you can afford to buy the gun and get the relaibility work done to it (if needed) and have a very nice gun.

I own a Stainless Pro TLE II that has proven to be an excellent firearm and is now my goto carry gun. However, with all the bad press coming out on Kimber quality I would be somewhat hesitant to buy another one. You'd think for as much as those guns sell for Kimber would have products that would meet customer expectations.
