originally i picked up MY LATEST BHP just because it was priced right ($569 NIB!). after tinkering with it, ive decided that i want to make this one the ultimate carry BHP.
im definately going to have larry make me some MONKEY GRIPS for it.
id also like to get the front strap checkered aggressively (20-25 LPI), and have the rear strap stippled or possibly checkered lightly (30 LPI). who would be the best source for this?
i want a commander hammer installed to avoid the infamous hammer-bite commonly associated with the standard BHP hammer. who would you recommend for this?
id like to get it melonite treated. i know barry did this on one of his; ill have to search for that thread to find out who did it but i remember it turned out fantastic.
i absolutely want to get trigger work done as i find an OEM BHP trigger to be pretty dang horrible. who would you recommend for this? i know removing the magazine safety is the first step, but ive done this on my other BHPs and while it cleans it up it doesnt clean it up enough.
any other suggestions/recommendations? im not real impressed with the pricing on cylinder & slides packages they offer. its not that i wont pay for good work, i just think theyre over priced for what they offer. its not the amount im looking at, its the value.
i dont carry my other hi-powers due to their value (either monetarily or in some cases, sentimental) but this one will surely get some carry time. rotating it with my 1911 will bring me smiles. thanks, |

| Esmeralda grips really set off my 75th Annv. I had the mag safety removed and the trigger is fine now--a little heavy but predictable. You may not need to do anything else. I don't care for the sights so painted the front red --as I did in my 69C, and drifted the rear just a touch to the right and it shoots right to poi at 10 yards now. I used it for my range qual for my NRA Instructor course and shot rings around the other 7 in my class. Some of the younger guys at the club claim I knew JMB personally, that's why I'm such a HP proponent. Wish I had. I don't like the checkering idea. In a 1911, it makes sense, but the HP is to perfect to control I just don't see the need. I wish mine had the round hammer like my '69. Hammer bite isn't a problem with my grip, but it just looks better. Yours looks black, mine is Browning blue. Just the picture? With the Esmeralda grips, I constantly get favorable comments on mine. I then preach the word of JMB, Monsieur Saive. |

thats the same as mine that have the magazine safeties removed. i would love to find someone who could make a BHP trigger more like a 1911 trigger. i really wish mr. camp was still with us.

i have grown to absolutely love dan wessons combination of using a big green tritium front sight with smaller white tritium rear sights. the contrast in colors just makes that front sight jump out at you in the dark when not yet fully awake/oriented. id like to do the same thing on this BHP; ill be sending it to novak for that.

shoot...you couldnt just told 'em you like sig 1911 bastardizations and they will never accuse you of that one again.

i really like a positive grip. i do agree the BHP is already perfect ergonomically, i just prefer the texture of checkering.

the commander hammer will be an absolute must-have for me.

nope, my BHP is as black as the messenger who got kicked down the hole in the movie 300.
...i guess that enables me to call it "tactical". |

I have an accessory for hammer bite that might work out for you Nathan, also have a set of Browning Hi Viz sights. You might also take some of the 3M No Slip tape I gave you and cut a small piece to fit the front strap. Plenty of traction.....believe me. Randy |

also...forgot to tell you that there is a new gunsmith here in Billings that might be able to take care of the trigger for you. will call yo with the contact information. You might also look up some of Stephen Camp's old posts or web site and see who was doing his work.

I know this is a stupid question, but this forum will give me a real answer...
I saw Zonker's link, and they add the beaver tail to the frame as a positive feature...Why? It looks like an unnecessary and potentially problematic feature. It makes the pistol look more like a 1911, but what is the beaver tail for? What does it do?
Thanks! |

| Bit off the subject, but I have a Browning BDM. Nice shooter, but it needs a trigger job. Long, bit mushy, with a very short reset that is a bit difficult to sense. Any ideas as to a good resource for this job? |

I'm not a fan of G-10 style grips. I like the finest woods, hence Esmeralda select cocobolo, although the 75th annv model came with select walnut. The color was much darker than my 69C, so getting the light/dark Esmeralda's was an easy choice. Mine is Browning blue on the 75th--very deep and almost as good as the 69C's bluing. I think you got the tactical with the polymer grips and they are black. Will figure out how to post pictures one of these days. BTW, I did know JMB and he swore me to secrecy on his next, greatest design for the 1911. Something about external extractors and squared off slides... |

| took the BHP out today for the first time. function was great with the exception of a failure to lock the slide back on empty. i could not repeat the failure and dont know why it happened once but im certain i wasnt riding the release (with the spur hammer on a BHP i definately keep my hand really low). i had forgotten just how piss-poor the OEM BHP triggers are. im looking forward to getting some work done on this one. |
