Thanks guys,
I think, partly to do with this site, I now have two handguns on layaway, one an all matching Ballestar Molina and the other an all matching Israeli HP. I also have decided to buy my friend's CW 45, the same I have carried each day now for about a month.
I also have decided to move away from anything less than 9mm and that in 147 grains. I knew from past days of intensive gun mag reading that 9mm and .38 Spl were considered "basement" rounds. I myself allowed .380 because of my Colt Pony. I no longer feel that way. I have carried the CW45 so much now I feel odd without it, even open carrying some....no one has so much as asked about it.

| Good for you. I'm glad you have decided to move up and away from the subcaliber guns. |

ahhh. Someone that understands ballistics and is not swayed by all the mousegun marketing hype. Good for you, and will be expecting pics of your layaway guns when you can. What kind of shape is the Israeli HP in? The ones I've seen are pretty beat up, or I'd have one.....and what is a Ballestar Molina? I must google asap, as it drives me nuts when I don't recognize a gun.
googled....a 1911 variant made in Argentina. Very cool looking gun, and hope yours is in good shape. |

The BallestarM is mainly due to my collecting addiction, it's not for carry. Appears to be in Excellent condition and will do home defense and light shooting. The HP looks cosmetically rough and I won't so much as change the sights, but could have a new barrel and crimson trace grips installed. I would get it cleaned up internally if I wanted to carry it. I missed out on a Colt Sistema that was so parts swapped I would have been OK with modifying it but the guy turned down payments.
I want a 1911E later though...thanks for the support guys. |

| The Ballestar Molina isn't "really" a 1911... it only looks like one. One noteworthy difference is the trigger... on a 1911 the trigger is pulled straight back, whereas on the Ballestar, the trigger pivots as on most handguns. |

| Ya, it's really a Star Model B copy I think. I should have gotten one in the 1990's when they were much cheaper, but I was younger then and didn't know as much as I think I do now. |

| Well, good for you, but don't think that only 147g 9mms are adequate. 115g +P have roughly 30% more ME than a .38spcl +P. The HST +P+ 115 grain is moving out at better than 1350fps and will both penetrate and expand better than the fbi tests require--including through heavy clothing and barriers of various types. The Ranger Talon is also a great round for PD in weights less than 147g. |

+1, although +P+ means there is no SAMMI specification for the pressure generated by the round and may not be suitable for the OP's guns of choice.
Really, each round much be evaluated on its individual performance. "Going heavy" is generally sound advice, but if your gun has issues feeding the longer 147 gr offerings, there are a variety of rounds in lesser weights that still offer excellent terminal ballistics. |

Well, I ordered two boxes each of Speer Gold Dot 147 grain JHP and Speer FMJ. If they both are similar in impact point, I'll order more of the FMJ for practice. My Fist holster made for CTC grips should be in any day now.
If the new-to-me HP can feed those also, great. If it cannot, I'll find something it can. |
