before diving into my first revolver purchase i was hoping for some advice! summer is upon us and with 90+ degree weather i want to lighten up a bit and purchase a .38 snubby for a ccw. As i am left handed the charter arms "southpaw" has really peaked my interest, but i have read good and bad about these, some say the old ones a great and the new ones not so much. Now i totally understand this is not s&w quality, but it is super convenient for us lefties,so this is where i hope for some advice.
I have been in the market for a while now and havent "pulled the trigger" yet! Ive shot the ruger lcr .38, ive fondled the s&w bg .38 which i did like the overall feel of and the ambi cylinder release but i wasnt to keen on the idea of fumbling with a little button on the laser in a SD situation, and ive been trying to get my hands on a 442/642 j frame to see how that feels! please help if $ wasnt an issue i would buy them all and figure it out. No real rush but i am itching for a new piece! thanks in advance ladies and gents

I bought a charter arms .44 special off a friend of mine a few months ago. I let him buy it back from me a couple weeks ago but I had no problems with it at all. It was a good shooter and fairly good carry gun. A little heavy but that shouldn't be an issue with the .38.

I'd rather be tried by twelve, than carried by six.

I own a .44 Special Bulldog. Goes bang everytime. Worth what you pay for them in my opinion.

I like the wife's pink bitch (undercover lite) so much that didn't hesitate to recently pick up the CA Pitbull (.40S&W Revolver) for my own fun. Stick with their .38 spl series such as the southpaw (I was considering buying one when they first came out just because) for the lightest weight pocket suitable option.

Life time warranty, if I'm not mistaken. Our CA revolvers are not "cheap" by any means.

BTW all I've heard was that in the past it was hit or miss where things seem improved today. Whatever -- internet gossip, just like these posts, eh? I can't really tell you about the old days and I certainly don't have thousands of rounds down range, yet. I can tell you that CA is such a company that you just might have a chance to talk to the primary owner, Nick Eckart on the telephone.

Finally, if you do go with Charter Arms, you have enough $ left to implement my favorite suggestion -- 2 for 1 -- select ANOTHER "good value" shotgun or some such!

BR,

Their quality has improved over the last few years. It was very iffy before, but what I've read--and the one I shot, seems like they finally got it together. Just the opposite of Kimber--at three times the price.
