i got the opportunity to put my hands one one today and ill be the first to admit that springfiend finally has a winner in the XD line!
the trigger is actually pretty decent on this one. the reset and release point are one in the same, just as with the glocks. in fact, im pretty dang sure that springfield totally ripped off glocks trigger system and partially precocked striker system. its so glock-like that it has to be a rip-off and if thats the case, good move, springfield! i am finally vindicated for all my criticisms of the original crappy XD trigger. the trigger even looks like the glock trigger with the built-in safety. they call it the "USA" (ultra safety assurance) trigger, but im betting its a GRO (glock rip-off) trigger. its very decent; the reset is very crisp and you can both feel it and hear it just as with the glock. my only criticism with it is how far forward you must travel to find reset, but its distinct and prominent so i forgive the travel.
the springfield website says: "The new XD-S™ trigger has a short travel along with a short reset which helps to keep you on target with greater ease for quicker, more accurate follow-up shots." thus further validating many many statements ive been making for years on this forum about shooting from reset!
i like this gun! had it been chambered in 9mm or 357 sig i would have bought it on the spot. while i love the .45 i want greater capacity.
can anybody tell me for sure if both magazines are short mags, or does it come with one with a pinky rest and one short mag like most others?
regardless, springfield has a definite winner in the XDs. im sure ill have one eventually as the line evolves into other calibers. |

I just bought one of these, and it is awesome. I used I have a Ruger LC9 9mm, and this gun is almost identical in size, but it's a .45! I pocket carry it quite a bit.
It comes with two 5 round magazines. I ordered a 7 round mag with pinky rest today from Springfield for $39. The gun also comes with a hell of a nice case, a holster, mag holster, extra smaller interchangeable grip, and two different colored front sight inserts.
Very good quality gun. 1911 grip angle, and 1911 type grip safety. It's like having a thin and light .45 1911 in your pocket, or iwb |

did anybody else notice they silently slipped a glock trigger and striker system into this gun? im glad to see the addition as ive said for years that the glock trigger/striker were superior and thats why everybody (including springfield, now) copies it.
i wanted to wait on this gun in 9mm or 357 sig but dang ive been thinking about going back for it all day so far. |

| You can't go wrong, man. It's a well made .45 that can be pocket carried or easily slipped in to an iwb holster. |

| If this is the XD slim that just came out, I don't like the grip at all. I know that it makes it easier to carry in some cases, but I like the fatter grip of the original. I did not get to fire/dry fire the gun as it was someone else's gun that I was looking at. I have always loved the feel of the XD frame and will be looking to purchase one on .45 sometime this year, just not the slim version. |

i wonder how long before we see the glock trigger on the rest of the XD line (and when it happens, remember who predicted it first)? |

Do you like 1911's? This is inspired by that gun, with the grip angle, safety, and .45 round, but it is much easier to conceal. Also, if you like Glock, this is superior IMHO. Metal magazines, metal mag release, grip safety, better ergonomics. Sounds solid when you rack the slide, instead of toy like. Glocks look like a swing line stapler to me. This gun has some nice lines and weight removed that was unnecessary. Look at the front of the slide, how it's shaped. Beautiful and practical |

If in .40S&W would you buy? I'm thinking your lack of love for .40 might be because you haven't bought a new, cool platform to shoot it in (most other releases coming out in 9mm first!).

no, im moving away from the .40 and have no plans at this time of acquiring more. the .40s i currently have will likely be converted to 357 sig after i burn off about 18,000 rounds of stored ammo. |

not only do i want the capacity, but i find the 9mm is much easier to shoot in sub-compacts. this gun in 9mm would be fired by my young daughters with authority. |

Makes sense. For the record though, this gun kicks about the same as the Ruger LC9 9mm I used to own. So, It could be that the Ruger kicked more than it should, but also could be that the XDs has mild recoil.
At any rate, it does sound great for kids in 9mm. Very thin and small.
Here's a pic of it in my hand with the extended mag. Notice where the regular mag would hit on my palm, and that'll give you an idea of size.

Btw, I'll say this so I don't get asked. Gun was unloaded, and angle of the photo makes it look like my finger is on the trigger, but it's not.

These are soooo hard to get! No distributors have them and the few they have mostly go to the high volume dealers. Be prepared for the 9mm version to be VERY hard to get and probably demand a premium price for a while.
I've been trying hard to get hold of some (.45 cals) and I can't!!! |

Do you have Sportsmans Warehouse? That's where I got mine. I only paid $519. I called them, they said they should be getting a shipment the next day. I went down, they had one, and I nabbed it. |

That's too bad. Their prices are hard to beat. I like Cabelas in general, but prefer buying stuff at Sportsmans. I guess cabelas is where I look around now days, and Sportsmans gets my money more often lol. The other thing I don't care for at Cabelas, is the phone rings non stop. You're over checking out guns, and it sounds like a call center, except for nobody picks up the damn phone. |

+1 The dumb-asses haven't figured out to tell the operators NOT to transfer calls to the floor, whose salesguys must have figured out that they don't get paid to answer it (short sightedness / no long term thinking towards satisfying the prospective customer in the short term for the long term reward of satisfied customers & return business).
They could probably increase their sales significantly if they would just transfer many calls to a "monkey" with computer access that could look up whether something was in stock or not and/or provide a price check!
I actually liked Cabelas in the old days when I mail-ordered from them. Midway USA, Amazon & others own that niche now. Remarkably, now that live nearby Cabelas, I even have the most difficult time in cashing in a gift certificate in person! Maybe I'll just sell the damn thing at 50% and be happy (time is valuable).
Cabelas is possibly the most incompetent brick & morter franchise out there. Nice museum, however. If not for tourists, they'd be out of business by now. That they can lose a several thousand dollar customer without blinking an eye is just amazing!
