So I've been thinking of upgrading from my XD9sc to something bigger. I'm torn on .40 or .45, and have been looking long and hard at the Kahr CW lineup. I can get a NIB CW40 for $399 + tax or a NIB CW45 for $379 + tax. I've searched and read some older threads from satisfied Kahr owners, but how would you compare it to an XD9sc?

much thinner and lighter. I used to carry an XD 9SC a lot, but the thickness and weight got to me. Triggers are entirely different on the Kahrs as they are kinda revolver like and very smooth...nothing like an XD. Two dot sight setup on the Kahrs is hard to get used to, but after a while, no big deal.

couple of things you will be giving up by moving from the XD to the Kahr. My 9SC shoots like a full size gun, and distance shots were no problem...very accurate. Also, you will be going from a gun with the potential to hold 17 rounds with the extension on a full size mag to a thinner single stack pistol both with 6+1 capacity. I don't think Kahrs are very good long range pistols, and I'm not as accurate with them as I am with my XD SC. Its a trade off between light and thin with ok accuracy to chubby, heavy, great capacity and outstanding accuracy.
I still own my XD 9SC, and carr it when I can OWB. I ususally carry my Kahr CW9 or CW40 as second guns to my primary Glock of the same caliber. I rarely carry the CW45 mainly because I have not gotten a chance to break it in properly for carry, and its a tad large for a back up gun.

i have owned 3 different Kahr 9mms as well as a P45. All are fantastic guns for CC as well as range duty. Being that Kahrs are single stack vs the double stack design of the Xd's, the kahrs are much thinner and CC friendly. Kahrs are about the smallest in terms of width on the market in all three cals (9,40,45). If you already carry the XD9 i would strongly consider the CW9 as you already probably have a bunch of ammo for carry and practice.

Zonk: I'm looking for a primary carry piece, but I don't think I'll get rid of my XD9sc. I hear ya about the XD's accuracy though, it's amazing how accurate they are for such a small gun. Being in NY, I'm restricted to 10 rounds so I wouldn't be giving up much capacity with the Kahr

If I go with a Kahr, it'll probably be the CW45 because it's cheaper than the 40.

The more I think about it, the more I realize I'm not going to replace the XD9 so much as find a larger caliber pistol that's easy to conceal. The CW45 looks easier to conceal than the XD45, M&P 45, and G30.

Hows the reliability of the CW45 compared to an XD?

mine is not broken in yet ( I work too much) but reliability of my other Kahrs have been perfect (because I read the instructions and broke them in properly).

Just be advised that in no way are you undergunned with an XD 9SC.
With 147 gr ammo, you are fine and have 10+1 vs 6+1 with the Kahrs.
My favorite of the Kahrs is the CW9 or CM9....they are just so damned thin and feel so good in the hand that there is not much to dislike. Have you thought about getting one of the 9mm Kahrs as a BUG to your XD? That's the role that my Kahrs play, and very happy with it.

I've got a PF9 that serves as my BUG. That's a violent little SOB with +P ammo It works well for pocket carry, but that's pushing the limits of what can be carried in a pocket IMHO. A CW9 may be a good summer carry gun, while the XD is good for winter when I can wear hoodies and sweathers, etc.

The simple explanation is this: I've got the itch to buy a new gun and I'm looking for something to scratch it

I have a Kahr CW 9mm that I picked up used (looked like it never left the box) for $300 to replace my Keltec PF9 jammer (never again). I use it as a back up if I'm planning to head into shaddy areas of town and when I absolutely cannot carry anything else. Great little pistol with a long, but even pull and accurate enough to place well aimed shots. With a 9mm, I won't carry one unless I can thread a needle with the rounds I'm sending.

It's better to have a gun on you and not need one, than to need one and not have one on you!

A best friend loaned me his CW 45 with a P45 "elite" trigger and Mitch Rosen pancake holster. I have carried it every day now for two months and I LOVE IT. I never thought I'd love the .45 so much but I do. I'll buy it from him later.

Believe it or not, it is the same size as a S&W 642 and same weight. It is only 1 inch shorter and 1 inch less tall than my Browning Hi Power and of course, much lighter.

It is easy to handle with 230 grain Hydroshoks. If I were you, I'd get the P45 from Kahr, a CTC grip, and pancake holster for both.

If you can find one....the S&W Chief Special .45 would be a fabulous solution to your itch. The 3rd Generation Smith's are as good as it gets. Smith had it right long before it was in vogue.

dsims,

I LOVE that video "signature" you have. Where is it from?

The CW45 is only 1/2 inch longer and 1 inch taller than my P9 "Covert" which is the same size in the grip and about 1/2 inch longer than the PM9.

I'm like you, pack the Kahr 9mm when I can't tote the larger .45. In winter, I'm going to try and go with a 1911 or BHP if funds allow.

I currently have two of the CW9 pistols (one for me, one for wife) and an all-black P45---nothing really bad to say about these little dawgs except the 45 has "noticeable" recoil---I can recommend them!

His signature is from the movie Collateral with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx.
