Hey Im pretty new to the whole gun realm. lol this question might sound a little ignorant to a lot of things but I just want to know everones opion on what they think the smoothest shooting gun is. So far the Sig has my bet but I would like to know others so when I go to the range I can try out different types of guns and calibers

That's an easy one, a 1911.

5" 9mm 1911 with comp reloads
Ruger GP100 with trigger job shooting my competition .38 reloads.
HK P30/P30L with comp reloads
Tuned up Smith revo's
Benelli M4 w/ 3 in mags

But then again some will say blocks, rocks, bricks, aka glocks and i cannot shoot those near as well as the others. Honestly this is a ford v chevy kind of question and what is "smooth" to me might be a bucking bronco to you. YMMV

+1 HK. This is a totally subjective question. Low power loads, heavy frame, (to a lesser degree) bore axis, plus (completely subjective) fit are some variables. Given that criteria, I'll toss in my 2 cents.

Smoothest thing I've shot is the Springfield 1911 EMP. Smaller frame than a full sized 1911, but the handling is very similar. The Beretta 92fs is one of the most comfortable guns I've ever handled. That thing is just a pleasure to shoot!

Start with Colt, the original, reasonably priced, hold their value better than any other 1911 IMO.

My Colt 1991 A1 is very smooth and it is bone stock except for grips! A very close second would be a Browning Hi-Power!

the series 80 colts are nice but IMO they dont hold a candle to how nice the series 70 varieties are. I would take a look at the springfields and older kimbers. if you can afford 1500-2000, i would look at the spring field TRP, Dan Wessons, used wilson combats and les baer's.

You are a .40Lover...

Try H&K USP in 40 S&W. For me, the best combo of smooth, accurate and reliable.

And 13+1 in 40 S&W!!!!! :)

Or get a Rock Island Commander sized pistol and shoot the crap out of it and then sell it for near what you paid for it and buy your dream 1911 if you really like the platform.

WOW. Your research should involve much more than this thread! Someone will recommend their sweet 1911 and someone else will argue that it ain't a REAL 1911. Pretty passionate topic, for sure. Stick a few in your hand a dry fire away. After searching for keyword 1911 on this forum, try out another.

Lotsa information over at:
http://forums.1911forum.com/

You'll find quite a few folks that drop $800 bucks into a decent gun and then replace most of the parts for another $800+ before initially breaking in the original piece.

There is like...a hundred years of history and evolution to consider.

Have fun!

Tye
