Nathan, I really like your info posted listing lots of weapons. I have a CCW in Texas, and I carry a Taurus 851 Revolver, and also own a S&W Stainless Steel Air Weight 38 Special. I recently bought a Charter Arms Bulldog, very old but in excellent condition. I looked through your info but found nothing about the 44 Spl. One of my friends carrys a 25 ACP, and I told him what I read on your post and now he plans to get a different weapon. Do you have info on the 44 Bulldog (Charter Arms 3")? I have already found some difficulty in finding practice rounds for it. |

| This was a really great guide. I had heard some of the tips in my CCW class however its good to read them again and hear examples of times when they counted. |

Love the article, nicely done.

QUOTE: Nathan There are other calibers worth mentioning because they are viable defensive rounds, yet I don't typically recommend them for various reasons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I hae gotten a lot out of reading messages on this forum. But since I carry a Charter Arms 44 Spl 3" older weapon as my primary carry with a S&W 38, both revolvers, both loaded with hollow points, my CA 44 Spl loaded with Winchester SuperX 200 Grain Silver tip hollow points, I want to ask you if why you would not recommend a CA Bulldog for concealed carry. It fits my 38 J Frame holsters, and packs a potent round. The one I have seems as accurate as my S&W 38 Spl. Although expensive I don't have much trouble getting self defense rounds for it. Initially I was concerned about carrying with one in the chamber but I do now, and the second revolver, along with speed loaders. I fired a 9MM for qualification, but I like my guns much better. So I am interested in what your comments would be regarding a CA 44 Spl weapon.

| i would have no reservation in trusting a charter arms .44 special. typically we recommend what we use because its what we know, and since im not much of a wheel-gun guy its just not what i typically recommend. please note, i have nothing against it what-so-ever. |

Great read. I recently had an attempted home invasion while at home with my family. We were in the bedroom and I heard the house door open and shut. Luckily we had an alarm that announced the door opening and I immediately yelled. The "would-be invader" opened the door, heard the alarm and took off, knowing the alarms announcement spoiled his stealth. I called the cops who came and did an outside search. I then found out that had been going on in my neighborhood. My gun was at my other house, my wife became a believer and I went with her next to buy a .357 mag.

| Nathan, I made copies of your carry guide and got my mom to read it. She is now looking at a Glock 19. Thank you so much for this helpful guide. It brought many things to my attention that I never would have thought about. |

Hate to beat an old horse, but great job! For a newbie you sure gave me a lot of good information. I like the discussion about ballistics, gun choices, holsters, and life in general.
Being a third degree black belt I would say the #1 defensive tactic one can develop is their SELF AWARENESS. No matter where you are or what you are doing you should have your head on a swivel. Know your surroundings and if you don't have a personal space you need to develop a personal space. What is personal space...the area around you (arms length) where people do not enter and if they do enter that area you are on "full alert" where your spidy senses are tingling.
I like that you talked about putting your back to the wall when you are out to eat or at a bar, etc. At the same time you are keeping an eye on the entrance/exit. Also when you walk into a public facility you should be looking for all exits at the establishment within eye sight.
thanks again for the hard work that you put into this article. |

| For years I have been one of those that no matter where I go, I have to be at the back table and have to have my back to the wall. Whether it be from martial arts training or basic situational awareness, I can't sit where my back is to people. I printed Nathan's report and have (1) in my gun bag and (1) in my safe. Always good to re-read and learn, learn, learn.... |
