the XD-M really does come with a nice case. notice the picatinny rails on the side for storing your accessories.

included is the XD gear that comes with all XDs. its not particularly impressive, but its nice to have the XD gear to use until the aftermarket produces decent products to use.

here is my XD-M beside/under my glock 23 for size comparison purposes.

i do apologize for the crappy cell phone pictures. when i woke up this morning i had no intention of buying a gun so i didnt bring my digital camera with me. i havent yet been to the range so i dont yet know what i like about this weapon but i have found a couple things that i dont like.

  • as the pictures show, this weapon was not designed for concealed carry. perhaps a compact version will be produced but this is a full size service weapon.
  • the backstraps do not swap out as quickly as they do in the springfield video. in fact, it requires driving out a roll pin first. this isnt a huge deal, but the video was misleading
  • the trigger is improved over the previous XD, but it still feels like there is a marshmallow underneath it and the reset point is still forward of the release break point.
  • you cannot rack the slide without depressing the grip safety. not a huge deal, but i dont understand why its done this way

i also find things i like about it but will reserve my praise until after i see how she shoots at the range (trip being arranged now ).

with XD-Ms selling for $700 in online auctions i was impresseed that scheels didnt gouge me any. i was happy with the price. ill let you know how well i like the interchangable back straps as soon as i find something do drive the roll pin out with.

a range report and better pictures will surely follow!

Thanks for the initial report. Can't wait to see how she does on the range. I'm a little dissapointed it's not as concealable as I hoped based on the size comparison with the Glock. Kind of takes me out of the initial buying thought until a compact comes out.

Thanks again.

Nathan with an XD?! His Glocks must be writhing! And where you gonna find room for another plastic case?

Actually, I was looking at these fondly due to the factory claims of better ergonomics and better trigger (read: deciding on a caliber to buy cause they look like an XD with the added benefits of an M&P), but they look much clumsier than the standard xd, and if the trigger's not better, and the grip safety interferes with the slide, etc., I'm thinking "why go there". I love my standard xd's, and their trigger is like Scotch or Jack Daniels- it's an acquired skill that gets better with time. Seriously, even the rear sight height bothers me on the M...

Eagerly awaiting your range report,

Jon,
Outstanding (out, standing, ?) in my field.

You waste no time, Nathan, no time at all and you had that thing in your hands. Kudos, I am jealous. It was funny, off topic but funny, I was talking with a builder today and we got around to shooting talk, I showed him my XDSC .40 and he walked me out to his car to show me his Mall Ninja AR, his collectors lefty trap shotgun and his old hammerless Smith with Black Talons in it and grinned "dont you just love Idaho?" I do indeed.

I hope that I can be half the man my dog thought I was.

Keep an eye on the slide finish Nathan, I have heard a couple of them came scratched up, even if it is Melonite.
