| I gave my 1911 style 9mm to my oldest son a few years ago. I never took to the 9mm round. However, I do like the .40 S&W and the .45 ACP. Recoil does not bother on the Walther PPS 40 amd Springfield XD-45 Compact. |

Did you chrono any defensive rounds with this pistol? I was just wondering how much that short barrel lowers velocity.

| I've had my EMP for over a year and it remains one of my favorites. It's a fun little gun, accurate and easy to conceal on my skinny bod. Bonus for me is my 8 yo son can shoot it and even though my wife hasn't shot it yet it fits her hands well. My other 1911's are all commanders and govt's so this is a nice piece in the stable. |

Sure, it's good looking. 1911's hold a place in just about any gun-lover's heart.
But I want a gun that goes bang every time I pull the trigger. AND...and I don't want to have to send it back in to the company to make it shoot.
I would think for $1200 that it will be a gun that...er um...shoots.
They should just put in a working model in the box and sell it for $1500.
I'll stick to my ugly Glock 27, which is a beautiful thing as it only cost me $530...and here's something strange...it shoots. |

I haven't had any issues feeding FMJ or HP's. I agree, I wouldn't have paid retail at the time I bought mine especially since I didn't have any experience with it. BUT, if I had to replace it for some reason right now, I would pay retail if I had to in order to get another one. I like it that much. Maybe the OP can explain what SA said the issue was with his or what they did to correct it. I would guess polish the feed ramp, top front of the chamber and maybe tweek the mag feed lips.

Nathan That is one sweet looking emp.Reliability is everything in a carry piece. This is why everyone chimes in on their favorites(sig p239 .40 is mine) .If you own a gun for carry then you must have complete confidence it will go bang.Everytime period.Money can't always buy that. And it will usually take more to correct it. Glocks no matter how fugly seem to achieve this. And at a great price point.I can't talk from experience as I refuse to own one,I believe plastic adds to global warming .So now that you've gotten over your initial disappointment. This gun seems to have fulfilled the confidence part. And it's a great looker to boot..Nirvana has been achieved...for now... |

My son has one. It is a beautiful little pistol. It feels good and it conceals easily. His took no less then 200 rounds and maybe closer to 400 before it functioned properly. That frustrated the Hell out of both of us. However, once it was broken in, the gun has functioned flawlessly. It is a great gun.
I, however, bought a .45 Kimber with a 3" barrel. Maybe I got lucky, but after I had the throat polished, that gun has been flawless with anything I load in it. I prefer the .45. |

I took my brand new EMP .40 to the range yesterday and ran 100 rounds of 180 grain FMJ (Sellier & Bellot brand) thru it. I was a bit nervous at first even though I've fired many handguns rented at the range, (a) because it's my first ever owned gun and (b) because I disassembled, cleaned and reassembled it the day I brought it home last week and was a little worried I might have done something wrong.
I set the target at about 5-7 yards and and put 50 rounds in the 9 and 10 ring! Felt great! At one point the gun failed to feed and the range employee who was watching me mentioned that I might have loosened my grip such that the grip safety wasn't fully engaged.
I set the target at 15 yards for the next 50 rounds and was a little less consistent, but still kept them pretty grouped for the most part. During these 50 shots my EMP jammed about 5 or 6 times while expelling the spent cartridge. It's as if the cartridge was half way out when the slide bit on it. The range employee suggested I may be "limp wristing" it, which I know I've done before when shooting a full size 1911 when I rented at the range some time ago. The problem last night stopped when I'd focus on not limp'n it so it may have just been me...
I took the gun home and thoroughly cleaned / oiled it and I plan to take it back to the range next week and put another 100 thru it, perhaps JHP's to see how they differ.

I've had my EMP for a couple of years and love everything about it EXCEPT CLEANING the darn thing. It's been a great reliable and accurate pistol with anything I fire through it. As has been mentioned.....it conceals beautifully and you can literally forget you have it on. As for the EMP's cost: In my opinion...you get what you pay for and its too expensive for your taste....then don't buy the damn thing but don't criticize others if they don't agree with your assessment of the gun. I picked up a EMP 9mm with the G10 grips and it's awesome. Like Nathan I did some tweaks (stippled the frontstrap and thinned/shortened the safety "paddles") and it shoots really well. I've got 500+ thru it (WWB, handloads and a box of Winchester Ranger T 124+P [my CC load]) and it shoots awesome. It will be sharing duty with my Walther PPS 9mm for daily use.
I understand that the EMP .40 has a stiffer spring and is more prone to issues with limp-wristing than the 9mm. |

| Nathan I want to thank you for a honest review, personaly I connot see spending 1200 on any one gun, the one thing that got my attention is a lot of people after spending $1200, would never admit to anything wrong with it, kind of like the dude that buys a new big dollar car, and has nothing but trouble most would never say nothing, I commend you sir |
you can never have to many guns or to much ammo |

Thanks for the extensive review. I've had mine for a couple of years and have had zero problems with it. I ditched the ambi-safety and got a pair of Larry Davidson grips as well.

Looks great Ich,
Did you send it to SA to have the ambi safety removed? How much did it cost to have it removed? I'm thinking of having the same done to mine.
Nice grips! |

I had my local smith do it. He was doing some other work on a different gun at the same time so I don't recall what the safety work cost. It was probably cheaper than shipping it to Springfield. |

Took my EMP .40 to the range on Sat and ran 100 Remington 180grn fmj's through it as well as 50 Ranger SXT's without a single problem. I'm becoming a believer in the "break in" period now that I have over 400 rounds through it and it works flawlessly.

Could it have been the ammo?(might get banned for this)Everybody seems quick to blame the gun because its expensive, but everything i have read about 14x gr ammo tells me that they suck. Forums like this, gun shops, etc... All my glocks shoot everytime, my emp shoots every time, even my colt shoots everytime, but i usually shoot 150 gr and up. In my next post ill bring up shooting style. This past weekend i put about 100 rds through my emp with no problems. Hand it to a friend and first shot jam. he give it back and now i look like a dumbass. so i loaded all three climps and fired every round as fast as possiable with no problems. Im not trying to say those who have a problem firing the gun are limp wristed wimps with girly ammo but the problem might not be the gun 100% |

| I just finished a 3 day Close Quarter Pistol class with my 9mm EMP and it was great. 1200+ rounds and no FTF, FTE, etc at all. The EMP behaved beautifully for me. On the last day my partner wanted to try the EMP (he'd never shot a 1911) and got a FTE on the first round in the same mag I had been using in a set for 1200 other rounds, so we chocked it up to "operator error". Weird. Same problem you had johnboy. My EMP is currently at about 3000 rounds (been using it for IDPA-style shoots) and, while my goto gun used to be my Walther PPS 9mm, it's been replaced by the EMP. |

The price tag for a non-functional weapon is outrageous! This my biggest grip about any and all 1911s...no matter the brand.
I disagree with any company putting a $1500 price tag or even an $800 price tag on a weapon that has to be sent back to the factory to make it "run" and/or become a functional weapon that can be depended upon.
Some would say that a RIA, Citadel or any other ArmsCorp 1911 made in the Phillipines..."Well, you get what you pay for" or "What do you expect from the Phillipines". However, those statements go right out the door when a USA made weapon isn't performing any better...and at 3x the cost. I don't know how SA can justify something of the like nature leaving the factory.

the difference overall in these weapons however, is that the RIA/citadel/armscorp will never shoot or group like the upper-end 1911s. while i agree there is no excuse for a $1000+ gun leaving the factory inoperable (ive had my share of 1911s that had to go back including multiple trips to colt, multiple trips to kimber and one return forever, one trip to SA, etc.) but once they are broken in and operable you wont find a cheap clone that performs/shoots/groups anything like a decent upper-medium shelf + 1911. |
