| My EDC is a Colt Officers ACP. I have had this gun since new in 1986. I have never had a FTF or FTE with any kind of ammo - factory or handloads. I have shot thousands of rounds through it. Last year was the first time I replaced springs in it - just because I wanted to preserve all of the original parts - not because of any issues. |

I carry a 1911. I am proud of it too! If its the right gun for you you will know it, and once the bug bites, the rich history of the gun along with the shootability of the gun will make you proud of it too! As to why I carry a 1911. As a lot of other folks have said, the trigger pull and the ergonomics of the gun are superior to any other handgun Ive ever shot. But that's only the start of the story. all other reasons aside, I personally will carry no less than a .45 cal weapon. Yes they are heavy. Any .45 with 8+1 or more rounds will be heavy. I spent a lot of money going thru different holsters trying to distribute the weight until I joined this forum and read one of Nate's posts on the Milt Sparks VM2. $185 and 6 months later I had the answer to the weight problem. The holster along with a 1 1/2" leather belt works wonders. If I am wearing a Jacket I even add suspenders. As to the limitation of 9 rounds, I carry a spare magazine on the other side of my belt. And I practice the Idea of "If I need more than 9 rounds perhaps I shouldn't be there", as well as tactical reloads and empty mag reloads. As with any gun you carry, all the functions, Safety lever's, mag releases, aiming, ect, should be practiced until they are reflexive. In a real life gunfight, If you have to stop and think about anything chances are you are already dead. My point is there is no drawback to a 1911 that cant be overcome with knowledge and training. Its my belief that armed with a 1911 and trained and practiced with it, I am better armed than with any other gun. Just my 2 cents worth. |

There is absolutely NO good reason to ever carry or even own a 1911.

| I started carrying 1911's and haven't turned back! Good gun belt, good holster, and practice as others have mentioned will make you a more comfortable with the platform. I carry a full size 5" .45 to a 3" 9mm. I have a 4.25" Dan Wesson valor bob-tail on the way to fill the gap! |

www.stiguns.com Extra fine, Georgetown, Texas made firearms. 1911 and 2011s. Employee owned company. Top quality. Buy with confidence. Proper practice and study of each style of pistol is mandatory for safe and proper use. 19/2011 style pistols carry quite safely. Follow how the machine is designed to work and it will not hurt you. 1911's are a most sought after design worldwide. Well, spare maggies are available. .45 is a proven stopper. STI makes hi cap. It's a devoted shooters weapon.
if ya are used to the plastic guns and spray and pray, it may not be your cup o' tea. Go to a range and rent one. get the range officer to show you the manual of arms with it and enjoy shooting John Browning's 100+ yr old design, perfect pistol. 9mms are ok but I like a bullet that is fatter and slower moving. Heavy/slow has been successful for a long time before souped up hot rod smaller calibers. I don't wanta get shot with either. But if I do have to use a weapon to protect me, it'll be .45. good stuff. |

| I carried a 1911 for years both as a duty weapon and off duty. Over the last couple years I moved to the larger capacity poly framed .45 and .40, even tinkered with a 9mm (which I never would have done years ago with the available ammo). I've tried it and it just doesn't feel right, so today I dropped a chunk of coin on a S&W E Series Scandium framed 1911. If all goes well tomorrow it will become my new carry gun. The lighter weight will be on par with what I'm used to and the slimmer frame and bobtail will make concealing a breeze. I'm no longer in hostile countries, kicking in doors, jumping out of vehicles, etc. If I can't get the job done in a self defense scenario with 8 rounds of heavy/bonded hollow points I shouldn't be allowed to carry a pistol. |

| I have also been eyeballing the scandium frame Smith. I like to have two or more guns of a given caliber, so I'll never be without one. I think that Smith might compliment my loaded Champion. |

I'm heading to the range shortly. If it shoots half as good as it looks and feels I'll be in ballistic heaven! |

Who carries a 1911? THIS GUY!!!
I took my new S&W 1911E to the range on Sunday and forgot just well I can shoot a pistol. I'm no slouch with my HK's and SIG's but after @ 75 rounds I was putting together 2" groups POA at 20 some odd feet with ease. The pistol performed without fail with four brands of ball and two brands of bonded carry (all 230gr). The recoil was negliable with the scandium frame (contrary to reviews I read) which made double taps a breeze. It's now being carried in a Galco open top leather OWB belt holster which tucks it to my body for great concealment.

| I'm a long time 1911 fan. I'm a Newb here on y'alls fine forum. This particular thread is interesting. I do offer up this url for folks looking for a super fine quality firearm manufacturer. Everybody has a brand they favor. I like www.stiguns.com Made in the great state of Texas Just outside our capitol (Austin) in Georgetown, by employees who own where they work. Finest quality, 1911 & 2011 models. They rule the racegun game and have every model for your matches and or concealed carry. I don't work there but I do love their pistols. I carry a 1911 because that's the first pistol I ever shot at age nine. That was 50 years ago! Been hooked ever since. |

The 1911 isn't just a tool, most definitely NOT. I don't go out and pound nails with a hammer for a couple of hours just for enjoyment (admittedly, I shoot 1911s not JUST for enjoyment, but enjoyment is always had). I don't have custom work done on a hammer and post pictures of it on the Internet to drool over. I don't care if my hammers get dings or scratches.
Now a Glock -- THAT'S a tool. |

| I carry a Kimber ultra II most of the time and a Kimber Pro CDP the rest of the time. Here in the great state of Kalifornia we can only have 10 round mags anyway so capacity doesn't matter. I Cary in a Crossbreed super tuck and have a Kelly gun leather c-flex on order. |

| I carried a .45 when I flew as an aircrew member for Uncle Sam. I love the 1911 platform and still carry my prancing pony occasionally when I drees up. To me they are like a good cigar or good aged bourbon whereas my Glocks are more utilitarian! I love both types and appreciate their differences! |
