Re: Get me started?

Haven't checked in for a bit. How's the reloading quest coming along. As stated, read the ABCs. Buy or download the reloading manuals from each projectile maker, they have done their own research on their bullets. For your needs you're going to want to get into a progressive machine. All makers have...

FBI goes back to 9mm

The same argument as has been put forth by Nathan and others as to the effectiveness of *modern* post 2007 ammo offerings in 9mm.

Nice purchase!
For those that can't afford an M4, get a Knox Compstock for your shotgun. They too must be shot to be believed. Near zero recoil and a full magazine of slugs or buckshot shot rapid fire won't hurt a bit.

Re: Arisaka Type 99

I have a sporterized Arisaka in 7x57 Mauser. The Arisaka action is the strongest bolt action ever produced. The NRA did tests on it in the 50s and couldn't blow it up. Enjoy it!
Also, the dust cover rattled, in combat it was thrown away first thing.

Thanks Randy!
As a former resident of the NYC Metropolitan area I can attest to the fact that an inescapable train hurtling along at 50 mph in a tunnel 100 feet below the earth is the first place you want to be armed.
It's a jungle out there!

Re: I'm a bad gun owner . . . .

The frozen firing pin happened to me 30 years ago with a borrowed WWII 30-06 Springfield on a deer hunt South of Cascade, MT. Lord knows if the firing pin had ever been removed and cleaned in it's lifetime. It was about -10 F and the gun had been on my shoulder for about an hour out of the truck. I ...

Re: Inventoried your box lately?

Brass is the most expensive component. Save every piece and learn to reload. It can be done for $150 dies included in single stage. Making 60 rounds in a couple hours is better than just having a 5 gallon bucket of brass in the garage.

They still ice pick, their design is to not expand. See my videos. Also, 1/4" mild steel penetration is "impressive", but it simply shatters. See Box O'Truth videos on its performance in drywall and other media. A hit with SP in the torso or an unarmored leg with with lead core SP or ...

Re: M193 vs M855

We don't accept FMJ handgun ammo as a worthy round for self defense, why then surplus FMJ rifle ammo when there are any number of far better commercial bullets available?

Re: M193 vs M855

Sorry, got my international treaties mixed up. The above statement of mine is still a fully valid argument. In the scenario where one needs to use their 5.56 rifle to defend themselves or others putting down the threat quickly is of greater benefit than tieing up a possible accomplice in their extri...

Re: M193 vs M855

The entire premise of military ammo under the Geneva Convention of which the US is a signatory is that it is less lethal than commercial ammunition. It may not by the Convention be expansive, and if you hunt large game you know that you NEVER hunt with FMJ ammunition because it isn't effective or hu...

Re: M193 vs M855

The entire premise for the M-16 and the 5.56 was increased ammo load count for the same weight and the lack of long range need in jungle warfare. The original round and twist rate was for 200 yds or less.

Re: Favorite backup guns

I carry an alloy J frame, the 637. I'm 5'10" and 165 lbs and I have never considered it to have a recoil issue. I just don't understand how people can think 38 Special can have excessive recoil. It barks because of the 1 7/8" barrel but it doesn't hurt or come off target like a large calib...

Re: M193 vs M855

My prejudice against 5.56 military ball ammo was formed long ago. It's not good at terminal ballistics especially from 7 or 9" twist rifling. If a person wants good performance on flesh and bone soft point or in heavier bullet needs Barnes bullets are the choice. The video below bears this out ...

Re: M193 vs M855

No, it's not big enough and it doesn't effect enough people at the gut level. There are more people in the county I grew up in than in all of Montana and 99% of them never shot a gun in their life. The shooting community is large, but it's not anything compared to the Dimmercrat base. This was solel...
