Re: Trijicon AccuPower 4-16

Thanks for your responses Optic Planet had it for roughly $750 (about $75 less than Midway). After I placed my order I discovered that Amazon had it for about $75 less than Optic Planet B( I received it over the weekend, green reticle. I haven't had a chance to mount it as of yet because the mounts ...

Trijicon AccuPower 4-16

I’m leaning towards a Trijicon 4-16 for one of my 6.5 grendels. Is the resolution worthy of a scope costing a bit over $800? Green illumination is standard, red is special available as special order. Would red be worth the wait?

Re: .45 Raptor

Regarding weight I was referencing the weapon instead of the bullets. The raptor uses 45 caliber pistol bullets which typically top out at 300 grains. I looked into the raptor and decided against it because my big bore needs are sastified. Well... for now anyway 8) A few months back, I heard that Wi...

Re: .45 Raptor

It’s a rimless 460 S&W mag used in a large framed ARs. Anything the SOCOM has the raptor has more of (velocity, energy, range, recoil, weight, etc...).

Re: 224 Valkyrie.

Since I already have a long range AR, I believe I'll set back and wait to see if the Valkyrie lives up to it's hype. With JP, LaRue and a host of other respectable companies tooling up for the Valkyrie I suspect It'll be good.

Re: Magnification range for yardage?

I've never used a formula, always went with what felt right for the task at hand. Does the 1-4x provide any benefits other than cost? For example, weight savings. I sure both are perfectly adequate for the task at hand. That said, I'd prefer a bit more magnification. It just occurred to me...

Re: Boresights

My experience with bore sights for initial sight in has been spotty. I've used both lasers and the magnetically mounted Leupold and I haven't noticed any consistency between rifles. Looking through the bore and adjusting the sight accordingly as suggested by LWP has become my go to method for initia...

Re: .458 SOCOM

My dad had some pigs he wanted tended to and I decided to address my feeding issues so out came the SOCOM this weekend 8) With my standard magazines, the cartridges were bouncing off of the lugs in the barrel extension leaving deep gouges in the case. I tried one of my 6.5 Grendel magazines which ef...

Re: .458 SOCOM

So far I've just tried the Hornady 325 gr FTX with RL7. I went with the ftx thinking that its profile would facilitate feeding. Plus I don't need to go any heaver in southern Oklahoma. RL7 was the only suitable powder that I could lay my hands on. Accuracy is good, when single loaded (feeding issues...

Re: Seeking rifle recommendations

I got my son a Rem model 7 in 7mm-08 when he was 11 or 12, he's currently 15. Initially he had issues with the recoil so I loaded up some lite 120 gr loads. He's taken several deer with it. It's a nice rifle: lite, handy, sufficient accuracy and plenty of power. In other words, I want one. My son ki...

Re: .458 SOCOM

I assembled a 458 socom about a year ago using the Wilson barrel combo. I decided that I needed a short range thumper. I'm interested in your experience with the round.

I went with a Zeiss 2-8 but I'm seriously considering replacing it with a vortex 1-6. As you stated, it's a rather short range weapon.

Re: My daughter, spiders and driving

Sadly, she didn't. It went into hiding. My wife began looking for the carcass when I told her about the incident. She noticed a small spider on my left sleeve. She promptly took it out with a shoe. At least I saw it coming and her aim is much better.

I'm glad that she didn't use her shoes and the vehicle behind me didn't get involved :o

My daughter, spiders and driving

After picking my daughter up from gym, she politely informed me that there was a spider on my shoulder. I thought she was trying to "make me look" so I blew it off and told her that I needed to watch the road. Next thing I know, she's pounding me amongst my head and shoulders with jug of c...

Re: Any riders?

Everything was a no go for a few weeks. I couldn't even dress myself; so, handling firearms wasn't an option.

I just recently started carrying again but still haven't fired a pistol. I did manage to shoot some sporting clays over the weekend without any ill effects.

I enjoy dirt bikes. Bought a 2015 KTM 350 XC-F about 2 months ago, broke both wrists on it's second outing. Pretty much ended my riding for the summer but at least I went out with a bang 8)

You might try Aim Surplus or Rainier Arms.

I ordered some stuff from Rainier Arms and ALG Defense over the weekend, both orders have already shipped.

I've ordered a 458 SOCOM barrel from Wilson Combat. It occurred to me that I don't have a 100 yard gun plus it should be fun using it on hogs. Hope I don't lose to much brass. :o

Bed the action and you should have good performer. I've done several 700s like your planning and have always had acceptable results. You'll probably have to start reloading to see what the rifle is really capable of.
