Re: One long gun under tyranny...

i would consider getting this and then building a .22 upper and a 6.8 upper. http://www.aresdefense.com/?page_id=729 This is actually an interesting solution. The problem with getting different uppers is that they don't really work as I understand this system. Yeah, you can attach any upper, but th...

Re: Colt LE6920

1-9 and 1-7 barrels will shoot 55 and 62 gr stuff just fine. 1-7 barrels stabilize heavier (ie longer) bullets better. the most accurate chamber across all bullets weights for 5.56/.223 is a 1-8 in .223 wylde. hopefully this clears this up http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d37/madcratebuilder/509234...

Re: One long gun under tyranny...

In this oppressive scenario the M1A seems the obvious superior choice. if my M1a you mean the M1a socom. The M1a is a fine rifle but look at the draw backs, its heavy as hell, even with a composite stock, not to mention its quite long. mags are expensive and one can only reasonably carry a very lim...

Re: What do you consider the minimum SD caliber

I've never been a fan of 9mm but I understand it for some people. My wife carries a Walther 40 S&W and for years I carried .45 ACP but I've gone to 10mm. That picture Nathan posted about penetration made the difference to me. the largest PD dept in my area just announced they were turning in th...

tye, you could easily do the same thing with leupold, vortex, Nikon, etc. Many here like myself are not in a position to drop 2-3k on a piece of glass. the concept remains the same though.

Re: I'm a bad gun owner . . . .

I usually do a standard cleaning of my EDC's about every 3-4 months and will wipe them down as needed. My competition pistols on the other hand, get cleaned about 3-4 times a year. Once at the begining of the season, before major matches, and at the end of the season. At times they will see 1500+ ro...

ill protect my property. between my wife and i, we could cover the house and most of our neighbor hood likes guns to boot. we also have a few nurses and emergency responders too, so we are set. Though my wife will do most of the shooting and ill be busy keeping her guns loaded.

I had a very similar discussion with a good friend of mine. He has several Remington 700's and a few other rifles that all have picatiny rails for the base. He is currently in the process of unloading his Night Force, several Leupolds, and a few Bushnell and buying a Schmidt & Bender scope to sw...

i dont have direct experience, but the leupold my dad has on his super red hawk is very clear and holds the zero. after a few hundred rounds of full house .44 mag hunting rounds and 5 years of riding in the holster, it has preformed remarkably well.

the FBI site is about the best. you could look at local PD stats too. the sad thing with statistics is that they are ALWAYS biased/skewed in some way or another.

I am confused by your post dubhan. Im guessing that if your home burnt down your not going to immediately be able to reload. so i would hope you have ample hot 10mm loaded and ready to go. for me, ill be grabbing my browning buckmark and ammo can (roughly 3,000 rounds) of ammo to go with it. My wife...

if your on your feet most of the time, appendix carry might be an option. tuckable holsters are viable, but you really have to blouse your shirt. some like using a MIC style holster and carry it at the appendix too.

Re: What do you consider the minimum SD caliber

many of us at this forum advocate that anything that is not a service caliber (ie what LEO's) carry is inadequate for SD. In layman's terms, anything smaller than 9mm/.38spl is not a good choice.

I regularly carry a .38spl and my wife carries 9mm.

I've always said that the "ultimate" combat rifle would be an AR chambered in 7.62x39, but nobody could make a magazine that feeds reliably. If they now make an AR that accepts AK magazines, I might have to revisit that. http://www.cmmginc.com/category_s/1998.htm hickcock45 just did a rea...

Re: Does a Seecamp 32 quailify as a SD gun

to answer your main question, no it does not. it is marginally better than a sharp stick. There are many options in the pocketable service caliber pistols and revolvers. the mozambique drill you plan on using is difficult to pull off successfully with a full size gun while under duress in a fast man...
