Permissions Change

Postby Nathan » Fri Dec 05, 2014 9:13 pm

I had made an error in the over-lapping permissions of this board. Newly Registered Members are also members of the Registered Members group therefore granting newly registered users access to things they wouldn't otherwise be able to access. You may see groups disappear but they will come back after 25 posts. This is done to reserve certain sections to dedicated members of the forum. Sorry for any confusion.

I will have to check those permissions; you should be able to post in off topic.

Off Topic is actually a sub-category, not a sub-forum. Once in Off Topic, go to Off Topic - General to post messages. I just assumed your permissions and had no problem posting a test message.

Closer to 25 posts, at least I thought so, but now it's subtracting and going the other way. WTF

We cannot have a forum full of one word posts from everyone trying to beat the system that's in place solely to discourage spammers from cluttering up the board with content nobody wants to see. I cleaned it up and removed you from the new users group. Try out the features and shoot me a text if you still have problems.

Well that sucks. I have to actually participate to get 25 posts. That required effort. WTF! Well, OK, no so much effort after all.

Ya, it took me years to build my post count, now I have to start over! Life is not fair. :(

I'm working on correcting the issues. Note that "Off Topic" is a sub-category; "Off Topic - General" is the actual forum.

OK; try out the permissions changes. Over-lapping permissions can be difficult sometimes to configure and its easy to make a mistake. For example, when you join the forum you become a member of the "Registered Users" group but you also become a member of the "Newly Registered Members" group. Permissions that apply to one group can also apply to another if you are a member of the same group. Configuring individual group privileges can get a little tricky sometimes when they overlap. I think I've solved it; let me know.

Nathan is there anyway you can bring over at least some of the credit we earned from years on CCF.1? Perhaps our nicknames also?

The permissions thing makes sense, but I was just happy to have found the new 2.0 version of the forum.

Hmmm... without people to antagonize in R&P, I have only managed to rack up 22 posts counting this one.
