Stolen gun DB?

Postby Nathan » Tue Feb 14, 2017 4:30 pm

"I know a guy" that wants to sell me a gun at a really good price. So good in fact, that the cynic in me says it could be stolen. Is there a way to run the serial number through police records? I know about the hotgunz.com but that is dependent on the owner listing the gun manually. Does the ATF maintain any type of civilian accessible database?
Thanks,

All you can really do is get the SN from the seller and have your local LEOs run it. Even at that point, it's only going it show up if it has reported to the po-po.

Feel the situation out and listen to your gut.

Any time I've done private seller/buyer parking lot deals, I tell them up front to bring a copy of their DL and CWP as my "receipt". Any hesitation speaks volumes.
