224 Valkyrie.

Any thoughts on this new round?

At first I thought it would be another fad AR round. The more I read about it the more I think I might have to get one. Supposedly stays supper sonic to 1300 yards and with less felt recoil of the 6.5 creedmoor. I’m not recoil sensitive by any means but the worse my arithristis gets the more I enjoy softer shooting rounds.

Ammo will be limited I know. Looks like the only factory option is federal at the moment. I need a new wildcat round to load for like a need a hole in the head but pair this round with the savage msr and it could be a game changer for the gas gunners in the long range game.

Anyone see this as a viable option or am I just falling for the hype?

I never heard of this one but the stats look good on paper. That said, I never really thought of an AR for long range work. My ARs are chambered in 5.56 and 7.62x51.

The AR 10 is a very capable long range rig. The M110 I had in Afghanistan was basically a supped up AR10 in 7.62x51. I’ve shot my M&P 10 out to 1000 with good results.

I prefer my bolt guns for long range but it would be nice to add another option to the safe. I was looking at the savage MSR in 6.5 creedmoor for this but the 224 might take its place.

Since I already have a long range AR, I believe I'll set back and wait to see if the Valkyrie lives up to it's hype. With JP, LaRue and a host of other respectable companies tooling up for the Valkyrie I suspect It'll be good.
