357 self defense ammo for 2in barrel

Postby sawlog » Sun Jan 31, 2016 8:36 pm

I carry a 2.125in or 3in smith and Wesson model 60 daily.
today a went out and shot federal 125 jhp, hornady 125 critical defense. and 158 gold dot.
recoil on all were about the same and rapid shot placement was close too.
what do you all use for carry ammo in your 357 snubys?

ive got 135gr golddots in my 642 currently. I am shopping around for a new SD round though. something that is easy to aquire in decent amounts. the golddot has proven difficult to acquire as of late.

Go heavy. Always, always, always go heavy for self-defense loads (do not use hunting loads for human threats; I'm referencing heavy self-defense loads for human threats). From my 6" 686 down to my 2" J-Frame, I carry the 180 grain Remington SJHP. If in the woods I carry 200 grain soft points, but for human threats I cannot imagine a better cartridge for self-defense (in any caliber!) than a 180 grain JHP or SJHP .357 Magnum loaded to potential.

The good thing about .357 Magnum is that you have to try to find a bad choice.
