Long term storage

Post by Nathan » Wed Sep 04, 2019 12:52 pm

Folks,
With the ever-changing political climate and civil unrest we are experiencing, I think it's time we had a serious discussion about long term storage for hidden firearms. A few years ago this would have sounded borderline conspiracy theory, but leftists are gaining ground on these "red flag" laws in an effort to disarm conservatives. I recently read AN ARTICLE where a Marine veteran made the comments:
“If Antifa gets to the point where they start killing us, I’m going to kill them next," Kohfield told a crowd, according to the Oregonian. “I’d slaughter them, and I have a detailed plan on how I would wipe out Antifa.”
His reference was in regards to responding to physical violence, yet this was enough for the FBI to raid his home and seize his weapons under Oregon's "Red Flag" law. Every day we discuss how we would respond to various attacks; who amongst us is next?

This in mind, let's talk about all aspects of burying weapons. What do you bury them in? How do you seal them? Do you submerge them in oil, first? What type of oil? How do you create a buried gun map so that your family could find your guns? Are there guns that you bury that even your family doesn't know about (in case they are the ones who "red flag" you)? Is buried the only way, or is hidden good enough? Anything else to be considered?

I'll get more into my practices later in the discussion. I'd like to hear from the rest of you.

...hypothetically speaking, of course. cbwink

Here are a few videos I've found after a brief search. I haven't yet had time to vet the videos but I will as time allows.

Only a .22, but these are cheap, reliable and disassemble into the stock. At $240, this can be purchased in bulk and buried in different locations.

Easiest solution: I have dried food on year 10 and popped some open this summer to check on it. Just fine. Oxygen is the enemy. Buy storage buckets with grommet lids. Place items in buckets. Drop a couple of ice cube chunks of dry ice in the buckets and set the lids on top. Once the CO2 has displaced the air and is overflowing the bucket, snap the lid shut. Blammo. Oxygen free buckets of ammo and pasta.

Get a Sig M17 (or multiple). With the military adopting it, parts will be available for at least the next 40 years. Also, that FCU (firing control unit) is bound to have other options later on, such as dropping it in a carbine stock in a totally different caliber

Plastic water pipe is sealed with the "cleaner and glue" from hardware stores. That should be secure and water proof. Then the challenge is getting it open. A hack saw will do well. I have been using Renaissance wax on my guns for regular day in day out protection. CorrosionX is the best I have used for protection from direct water on metal. Of course my guns were lost in the fire and then the others when the boat sank.

If you really want to nail it, I guess you would have to figure out how to make a police report about your "loss". We can trade keys and I'll steal yours if you'll steal mine?

Filing a police report would involve giving them a complete inventory list...and I think that would land me on several more lists. cbgrin
