Another church shooting prevented

Postby Nathan » Tue Feb 23, 2016 11:42 am

The FBI stopped another church shooting. What stands out to me most is what the terrorist himself stated to the FBI agent:

"people are not allowed to carry guns in church"

He chose a church specifically because he knew that his victims would be unarmed. If this doesn't clearly establish in your mind why "gun-free zones" are so dangerous, nothing ever will.

What's most annoying about this story is the Council on American-Islamic Relations suggesting that he was just an attention seeker and was not a threat to anyone. If someone makes threats, they ARE a threat. If someone states clearly that they want to go on a murder rampage, what more evidence do you need that they are a threat?

Apparently, concealed carry in church is unlawful in Michigan, and the perp used this knowledge to plan a massacre. Here in Colorado CC in church is lawful (as is OC), and I have CC'd whenever attending. I don't give a damn what the congregation or the clergy think or would say if they knew, and concealed is concealed.

Fellow formites, what are your thoughts on the matter? What is your State of residence, is CC in church lawful, and do you CC in church?

If they gave you crap about it, you could always reply with "He who hath no sword, sell your cloak and buy one."

not technically true. you can cc/oc in a church with permission from the highest ranking church official. Sometimes that is the pastor, other times its a governing board. I know several people who have permission to carry within their church. Additionally, many churches have a silent armed security response team in place for their worship services. i have had a few discussions with clergy and t seems that many churches recognize being a soft target and are taking ownership of providing their own armed security.

Keep in mind this was in Detroit; aren't there additional gun laws in Detroit that don't apply outside of Detroit?

I know Church carry is legal in Alabama, as it is in my home state of Ohio. Really it's pretty dumb some states ban this. They should just treat churches like all private property and let the owners set their own gun policies.

I know of at least two others in my 60-person church choir in Florida that don't leave home without it. Pity the fool that tries something stupid and avoid crossfire.
