If there is one caliber you can trust for a one-shot-stop, it would be a 30.06

Indeed. .30-06 is my favorite rifle caliber.

When Jim Cirilo put together the elite NYPD stakeout squad in the 1960s, his team had access to a wide array of weaponry. Almost to a man, the preferred long gun of the team was a WW2 surplus M1 Carbine. Even with a 20-year old weapon design, the .30-06 caliber made it everyone's favorite.

Note: The M1 Garande utilizes the .30-06 caliber. The M1 Carbine shoots the .30 Carbine cartridge.

oh, my mistake. Seems like it's been too long since I've read that book. Better read it again one of these days.
