The 2A only prevailed because of the Protection of Lawful Commerce act. The very law that Hillary Clinton promises to work to repeal if she becomes president.

I don't understand why these attorneys would even be willing to file the suit knowing full well that the manufacturers are protected. If Clinton were successful in getting this law over-turned, every manufacturer in the U.S. would be forced to closed down immediately and liquidate all assets before the mountain of lawsuits that would follow.

Exactly. Where does it end? Hammer manufacturers could get sued because somebody decided to murder someone with a hammer, instead of hanging a picture frame on the damn wall

Thankfully the President couldn't overturn the law single-handedly. He/She would require the vote of legislators to do so.

To answer the question of why they did it, ever since the law was passed, suits have been filed trying to see what they can get away with that isn't covered by the act, or falls under the exceptions. I think it was obvious this wouldn't get by it, but perhaps they were banking on pure emotion alone to carry it all the way. It certainly got farther along then most groundless lawsuits against the gun industry do.

The funny thing is, even self-identified socialist Bernie Sanders was able to understand this reasoning.

The end goal is to get this to the SCOTUS. If HRC is elected, and gets her SCOTUS pick affirmed, expect an appeal, and then another.
