Non-essential purges

Postby Nathan » Tue Dec 30, 2014 10:31 am

This forum software has the capability of deleting conversations that haven't been read in X number of days and/or haven't been responded to in X number of days. While not necessary for proper function (the new DB and software are really fast and can handle any foreseeable load), I like the idea of removing non-essential threads once interest dies (R&P stuff, off topic stuff, jokes, etc.).

Before setting up this option I wanted to get feedback from you, the users of the forum. At what point is it acceptable to purge dormant content? If a non-essential thread hasn't been responded to in 30 days is it time to remove it? 14 days? 7 days? If it hasn't even been read in 30 days? 14 days? 7 days? Should it remain indefinitely?

Note this applies to non-essential content only. Your feedback is important to me; please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Surely, 30 days is reasonable.

Thirty days since the last reply, thirty days since the last read, or both or either?

30 since last reply would be very effective and a smart thing to get rid of the clutter that will happen.

some forums im on will auto purge after 60 days. 30 days seems reasonable for R&P etc.
