Man it's depressing to see 1911s without double-sided safeties. Really, why is it so much to ask for the manufacturers to provide service to 10% of the population with a simple extra piece of metal? That can't possible add too much to manufacturing costs.

Still those are absolutely lovely guns. No doubt about that. Still I've never had a 1911 as a carry gun, mainly because of the need to carry with the safety on. I would only use one as a carry gun if it was the only gun I was every going to carry.

That's solid thinking right there. When I was carrying a 1911 regularly, I noticed that during training/pressure drills with a Glock, I would instinctively try to find the thumb safety that wasn't there.
The 1911 is my favorite gun in the world to shoot, but I don't carry one despite owning so many of them. Still, it's true beauty.

Absolutely. I'm kind of ashamed by the fact that I currently don't own one. Some day I may get an EMP though. The EMP does have a double-sided safety and it's a wonder to shoot. Also I liked that it's in 9mm. I know some consider 9mm 1911s to be heresy, but it try to get all my guns in 9mm in order to standardize my ammo supply.

You sound like a prospective customer for a Kel-Tec Sub2000 in Glock 9mm. Keep it clean and it will shoot 30 round Glock mags just fine regardless of other reports. You will come to appreciate squishy plastic triggers, the hallmark of Kel-Tecs. It's an acquired taste, but they work nicely. Ask George Zimmerman. I was carrying it (and two other guns) when I was (illegally) hitchhiking with my dog outside Goldsboro, NC from the Banks up to Wake to make a canoe trip in 2014. The cop let me prone on the hot hood a good long time while my reputation was scrutinized. When the hippie has a permit, serial numbers memorized, and an American Express card in his wallet, he's probably legit. Mrs. Cop wouldn't even summon a cab for me to beat city limits. She handed me a pile of ammo and my stuff and told me not to reload on the roadside. I walked.
Sincerely,

Professor Stu Padasol
