Bought the wife a new truck!
So I finally gave in to her wanting a lifted truck, so we sold her 2007 Ram 2500 4x4 5.9 and bought her this 2005 Ram 3500 4x4 5.9 with 48k on it! This is how it looked when we bought it, we were doing mock up at the time. The worst thing about it was the paint, it showed is age. Clear coat failing, every scratch, and dirt showed on this color. But other wise it was extremely clean, and had a new fully built AAMCO trans put in it less than 10k ago.

I can see your insurance agent doing a happy dance. Nice rig though. Now you need a 42 foot power boat to pull on.

Nice! Very partial to the Cummins powered Rams myself, too.

Re: Bought the wife a new truck!
Thanks, but you ain't seen the rest yet!
So we had to do something about the paint. After pricing out full paint jobs, we stumbled on full Linex paint jobs. It cost the same as a normal paint job, no more scratches, more dent resistant, her favorite color, and it doesn't show dirt so bad. So we had Linex of Chesapeake coat the truck dark charcoal grey with the the tailgate, nerf bars, bumpers, and the new bushwacker fender flares coated black. Bushwacker doesn't make flares for dually applications so I bought a 2500 set and had to custom mount them. That was a little interesting mounting a flat set of flares on a curved fender!

I'm looking forward to the updated pics! What are you going to do for tires? I want something more aggressive for my dually but don't want to run rear spacers. I don't want to go crazy, but just a little bigger than stock.

Re: Bought the wife a new truck!
We have a 35 ft camper we pull with it now.
So the full list of things we did to it goes something like this. ....
Linex paintjob
Bushwacker flares
4 in Superlift suspension lift
Fabtec traction bars
Steering gear brace
2 in spacers in the front
1/2in spacers in the inside of the rear with 2 in spacers between the duals
35/12.50R17 BFG KO2's
It ended up looking like this!

Re: Bought the wife a new truck!
The pics don't do it justice, it's alot bigger and wider in person. It's so wide it wouldn't fit on the alignment rack at the Ford dealer.
So the problem with bigger tires on a dually is you have to watch 2 things. The inner tire can rub the spring pack, and you don't want the tires to touch in the middle when loaded. If they touch they'll over heat and have a catastrophic sidewall failure.

Man Mike, that looks great! I may consider this option myself! I picked up an '02 V10 2500 last month just to play with and hot rod and the next step is paint. What did getting this done end up costing you, and do they spray the door jambs and such?

I was curious on this as well. What happens to gaps and edges?

Re: Bought the wife a new truck!
Thanks guys!
So it cost me $4200 for the Linex, a repaint the same color was $3500+.
Yeah they did the door jambs, I completely disassembled the truck. Bumpers, door panels, weather striping, lights, even had to loosen the bed so they could pick it up and pull it back a couple feet to paint between the cab and bed. I didn't pull the dual fenders though, I told them to coat it as is.
There is 2 coats to this type linex we got, the base which is the high build, and the top coat that has a UV protectant, it flattens the base coat out, and is no where near as thick but still thicker than paint.
So the jambs and anything that had a tight tolerance was sprayed first with just the top coat then the stuff was re-taped, doors shut and the rest sprayed with the base and top coat.

Any idea if this can smooth over hail dings without repairing them?

Smooth over no, make it un-noticable I would think so. The texture is rough and without being able to see a reflection or glare it would have to be a bad dent for you to tell it. I don't know if there's anything other than traditional body work that they could do. How bad off a dent? We rarely get hail, any that I've seen are dents the size of a quater or smaller.

The V10 I bought has about ten little hail dents. Nothing major, but enough that it catches my eye. What is the warranty on that like? I know if you spray the bed it's lifetime, but what if you do the whole truck?
